"Good morning," Rita said, barely glancing up. "Today is a free study period. Your midterm is the Tuesday after next. I suggest you use this hour to go over your notes and ask any questions you may have."

"You? Are so very allowed," Rory said seriously. "And I'm sorry if I seem, like, callous or anything for being so upbeat. I'm just...if she came back, maybe...other people...will too, you know? And also I missed her."

Rory glanced over at Rita, who, by all appearances, was reading her paper again.

"Hey," John says, "don't get me wrong, I'm really, really damned happy that she's back. Really. I love her and I missed her and she's alive. And if she can come back, anyone can. I missed her too. Thank you," he says to Rory.
