Face was still a little on the back foot about the whole teenage daughter thing, but after swinging into town to get breakfast for them both, he'd brought Adra in to help him with his library shift. It definitely wasn't because he didn't trust her, despite her suggestions otherwise.

It was because he didn't trust trust the boys (and some of the girls) on the island.

"Crazy." Face translated. "She seems to think I'm a very strange human being."

Cassandra raised an eyebrow and looked towards him. "You are a very strange human being," she said dryly, "so I can see where she may have picked up that notion. It depends on what your notion of 'especially crazy' is, however."

Probably being slightly frightened of her kept the worst at bay...

That and the fact he was still growing into his crazy.

"I'm saddened that you think that about me. Shocked and saddened," Face declared, hand over his heart. "I'm being ganged up on."

"Things like that," Adra helpfully supplied. "Only more so."

Adra nodded. "Mom says he's lucky she thinks it's cute."

"He is lucky anyone finds it tolerable," Cassandra said.

She also thought it was cute. Shut up.

"Who is your mother, then?" She was... assuming Adra was adopted.

Well, Cassandra was half right there.

"I'm not supposed to say 'too much risk of destroying the universe'." Three guesses who she was quoting there.

"I am not even from your universe, nor do I have any interest in going there," Cassandra said mildly. For her standards. "I am sure it will be safe."

Adra jerked a thumb in her dad's direction. "Not you I'm worried about."

"HEY!"

"But I think she'd like you."

Cassandra considered that.

Then she turned to Face. "Don't worry," she said dryly, "No one genuinely believes you have the power to destroy the universe."

Could you read the 'it's probably you' from the wryly amused look on her face, oh master reader of facial expressions?
