Creative Problem Solving, Tuesday, period 3

The Danger Shop this week was set up as a go-cart course, complete with complicated turns and loads of tiny little two-seater cars. A set of stands lined the straight away to the finish line, on which were set up a couple tables full of classic comfort food. Eliot stood by the cars, a checkered flag sticking out of his back pocket, and stared resolutely at the ceiling.

"Hey," he said. "We're doing cars this week." He shrugged. "Creatively."

“Smash them together! Smash them into barriers! Jump each other!” Parker paused. “With the cars! Not your bodies. That is Not Happening Here.”

Which didn’t rule it out happening somewhere else, probably.

“Work out your frustration!”

"Or pair up, pick a car, and park it somewhere," Eliot said. He jerked a thumb over his shoulder at a shady little make-out point off to the side. "Work out your frustrations that way."

What? It's what teenage him would've done.

"That's making out," he said. "Kissing. Maybe second base. No nudity in class."

“It’s a safety issue,” Parker said very seriously. “Also, it might be gross. We don’t know. And we don’t wanna know.”

Eliot closed his eyes and winced. "That's not -- we know what -- okay, you know what, just -- drive. Or not. Eat food. Or don't. Whatever."

Kathy was doing a decent amount of ogling during the lecture, it was true. Her roommate, her teachers, her classmates...there had to be a law against putting this many hot people onto one small island and then making this happen.

There was, wasn't there? And who could she contact to make sure it never happened again?

Kathy raised her hand. "How fast can these go?" she asked. "Like, top speed?"

Because if these karts couldn't go more than 35 mph around the track, Kathy was going to try to work off all that excess energy by running instead.

...If nothing else, it would be safer to let her mind wander over the parking option if she were just running.

"As fast as you want! Danger Shop." YAY DANGER SHOP! "...Eliot tried to make them top out at 45 miles per hours."

Silly Eliot.

She might be able to keep up with a car going 45 for a little while, but that would be at a sprint and not something she could keep up for long. "Sounds good," she said, grabbing a helmet. "Maybe if I go fast enough, I can leave all these stupid feelings behind."

Please let that be how things worked?

Parker gave her a curious look. "I'm pretty sure they're kind of centered in your body. And your brain. Unless that was a metaphor or something. Or you're an alien and that's not true on your planet."

"More a mutant than an alien, but I'm pretty sure that's still true for me," Kathy said glumly. "I just wish it weren't."

Sometimes Parker was disturbingly literal.

Sometimes?

"Ohhhhh. Well." Parker paused. "Yeah, I have nothing. I have a boyfriend to work all this out on. And I don't know what I'm supposed to tell you guys, except to not get pregnant or arrested."

"Oooh, I don't--I'm not--I think I'll be okay," Kathy said, flustered. "I don't, ahh, have anyone to park with so it's probably not gonna be a problem?"

Why. Did. She. Speak?

Parker frowned. Then reached out to very awkwardly pat Kathy's shoulder. "There. There." She frowned. "There's a shop for that in town. In the meantime, try not to wreck a go-kart. Or, you know, do. If it helps."

That was a strangled sound. Being reminded of the sex shop--specifically, the sex shop owned by a teacher and staffed by a good friend, either of whom could probably be talked into giving her a discount and being discreet--was just not something Kathy was prepared to deal with right now.

"YEAHOKAYTHANKS!" she babbled. "GOODCALLI'MJUSTGONNARACENOW! BYE!"

ABORT! ABORT!

Poke. Poke. Poke.

"You never explained the bases."

"When. When when when when when."

You deal with frustration your way, Parker will deal in hers.

"Hardison says sports metaphors are a terrible metaphor for reasons." That she still wasn't completely clear on. "'Taking the Horde' is the shorthand we use some of the time."

"Why?" She might as well learn something new today. "Is it inappropriate, or is it uncomfortable?"

Re: Talk to the teachers

[identity profile] whoisalicewhite.livejournal.com 2015-02-17 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Ohhhh." Eliot also had a nice neck. Well. A nice everything. Parker took a photo of him for Hardison, and sent it with a caption that her boyfriend would understand. (TEN MILLION POINTS ON THE SCAVENGER HUNT.) "So, where would it be comfortable to talk about?"

"You're sure she'd know? She's English. Or ... whatever." Parker was still slightly unclear on that, and had a sneaking suspicion that Sophie had forgotten what her original accent was. "Do they even have bases?" She paused, struck by something else. "Is this about that song?"

Re: Talk to the teachers

[identity profile] whoisalicewhite.livejournal.com 2015-02-17 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
That was nice. Parker beamed at him. She'd already told Hardison about... stuff going on this week. Maybe, hopefully, he'd be here soon. To help. And stuff.

"That song. ~All about the base, 'bout the base, no treble. All about the base...~" Parker was on-key, even if the rhythm was all over the place.

Re: Talk to the teachers

[identity profile] whoisalicewhite.livejournal.com 2015-02-17 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't know that one? Hunh." A quick text to Hardison. And now Hardison was sending Eliot a copy of the song. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PCkvCPvDXk) "It's confusing. I don't get most of that song. But it's bouncy."

Re: Talk to the teachers

[identity profile] whoisalicewhite.livejournal.com 2015-02-17 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Still confused." Parker scowled, displeased. "We should go get more food after class and then you can explain what one has to do with the other." Plan!

Parker also didn't want to know if any of the students were skeeving on her, because that could get Awkward. She had no idea what the response to that was supposed to be.

She had her phone in hand in case Eliot decided to ogle, so she could photograph it and send it to Hardison.
