Ethics, Tuesday, February 10, 2015, 2nd period

Do you hear the sound of mechanized screaming, kids? Do you have a bad feeling about this?

Good. It's terrifying robotic toddler week!

"The issue of ethics is about more than simply the greater fate of the galaxy - or your personal relationships," Obi-Wan said. He was trying not to side-eye the robotic toddlers too much; did you have to make them so creepy, Anakin? "Within our old Order, it was said that a Jedi did not truly become a Master until he had trained a younger Jedi. Caring for another is a daunting task in its own right."

It's so they don't get attached! It's very Jedi! And not all Anakin just being a jerk!

...it was about 80 percent Anakin being a jerk.

"Depending on your universe of origin, it's entirely possibly you're expected to either take care of younger siblings as a primary caregiver by now or be preparing to marry in the next five years." His lips quirked up. "And Fandom has certain...quirks...regarding Valentine's Day and children unexpectedly popping up, so think of this as preparation if small children you never met wake you up Saturday morning."

Obi-Wan's eyes darted briefly towards Anakin. "...As that is apparently a risk you take by attending this school."

HE HADN'T KNOWN.

HE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE AWAY THE JOY THAT OJ WOULD BRING HIM.

Anakin shrugged. "It happens. They don't stick around for very long." He pointed back to the droids. "We've paired you up. You'll each get one baby for the week--they are old enough to walk, but are not yet toilet trained. They also don't like napping, but need to once a day."

They also hated baths like burning but he'd let them discover that for themselves. "Today you get to name your little darlings and figure out childcare arrangements for the week."

"Good luck," Obi-Wan said. At least the thought of the students dealing with such an ornery baby-- ah, the idea that the students would be learning something truly important, he meant, truly-- was enough to bring amusement back to his voice. "But know that if you abandon the babies, we will know."

Well, her partner looked about as sour as he could look when he realized what this assignment was. He could take care of Chainsaw but something that resembled a baby.

Nope. He'd just leave that thing with a nanny that he'd hire or something.

At least they would be able to agree on that point!

"I am never having children," Elsa declared, looking up at her partner, slightly more pale than her usual. "If I was ever on the fence about that fact before, this really, really cements that."

She hadn't even touched it yet.

Ronan nodded very, very slightly which was his way of agreeing. He just glared at the stupid robot thing and then glared at the teachers.

He'd take a fail on this one or he'd put it in a box and send it to Gansey.

Oooh, could they put it in a box? Elsa would be quite alright with putting it into a box. It wasn't as though her future career as queen of her kingdom really relied on this grade.

At all.

Even a little bit.

She could take the hit to her GPA, here.

"What... do we do with it?"

The answer was probably not going to be 'love and nurture it and name it George,' was it?

"Leave it here?" Ronan suggested, wondering if it would be that easy.

Elsa stole a glance at Professor Skywalker and Professor Kenobi.

"... Do you think they'd let us get past the door without it?"

She was willing to try.

"No harm in trying," Ronan pointed out, shrugging. "What're they gonna do, stop us and shove it in our arms?"

Oh.

... Oh.

"What he said," Elsa murmured, ducking her head down low. And now she really rather wanted to go crawl under a rock or something.

They could have been maybe a bit less obvious about wanting to bail on this one.

Ronan almost wanted to take the detention. Couldn't be that bad, could it? But, he didn't say anything else. Just glared at Anakin and shook his head.

He had fantastic self control.

Elsa was quiet for a long moment before venturing, "So... who takes it first?"

She was not calling that thing a her. It was a nightmare robot and a scourge sent down to torture them all. She was not going to acknowledge its personhood, thanks.

"Well, I don't want it." He was only being truthful. He so didn't want to tote that thing around.

"That would make two of us. I'll... take it first, then. And then we can trade off? Halfway?"

She was so stuffing this hideous thing in a closet.

"Sure," Ronan replied flatly. He was stuffing his somewhere too. So, they were on the same page. "Works for me."

Not really but did they have a choice?

It was this or detention, so probably not.

And once they neglected the thing for the whole week, it would probably be detention anyway. But Elsa was quite okay with not having to deal with that particular consequence until next week instead of right now.

"Excellent. I'm glad we could reach an agreement in that regard."

That poor droid baby.
