Introduction to Anthropology, 5th Period

"Today, we're going to be moving away from all the theories and start talking about the archaeology of different places," Daniel said, smiling. "Starting with my own personal favorite, Egypt."

"We're going to start off by talking about the geography.

The ancient Egyptians thought of Egypt as being divided into two types of land, the 'black land' and the 'red land'.

The 'black land' was the fertile land on the banks of the Nile. The ancient Egyptians used this land for growing their crops. This was the only land in ancient Egypt that could be farmed because a layer of rich, black silt was deposited there every year after the Nile flooded.

The 'red land' was the barren desert that protected Egypt on two sides. These deserts separated ancient Egypt from neighbouring countries and invading armies. They also provided the ancient Egyptians with a source for precious metals and semi-precious stones.

The Ancient Greek used to call Eygpt "The Gift of the Nile"

What do you think about a civilization in the Nile Valley?"

Janet sat down heavily in one of the desks and let her backpack slide down onto the floor with a very loud thump. She frowned. "I went to Shop class with Sam yesterday on the one day that the equipment went haywire. We were attacked by killer robots. And then we had to watch Wormhole X-Treme in Tactics of War, which was taught by--get this--Fifth. And today, everything is sticking to my hands."

She glared at her hands and tried shaking the pen and piece of paper off it again. No luck.

"I haven't eaten yet today either because I think the food would stick to my hands too."

"Killer robots. And I have my suspicions as to where they came from." Janet glared in the direction of Eighth's office. She'd totally forgotten about the radio broadcast in her irritation today, or she might have explained. Or maybe not. "I'm fine, Sam's fine, Charlie's fine. Everyone's fine. The shop teacher has a broken leg. If he develops a bad knee from this I'm going to kill someone. Just because."

"Daniel!" Janet glared at him next. "I'm hungry! I was taking notes in ACJ and arguing with Marty this morning and then I tried to put my pen down and couldn't. No alien artifacts were involved."

Janet smiled at him. "Me too. Sorry." She hit her pen against the desk a few times. Hard. Maybe she could break it to pieces and most of it would fall off of her hand?

"Did I touch anything I wasn't supposed to," said Janet. "What do I look like, an accident-prone archaeologist? Your place would be bad, as I have a seventh period. And the cafeteria is bad in general. It's going to have to be my room." She looked down at her backpack and then hopefully at Daniel. "I've had to carry that thing in the most awkward positions all day so it doesn't stick to my hands. Could you?"

"Don't worry," said Janet dryly. "I already turned down the student who wanted to try to hacking at the pen with a knife."

"Thank you," said Janet.

OOC: Given that it's, like, 10 CST, can we just handwave the 'feeding Janet lunch' part?

"Um," said Janet, as they walked down the hallway. She kept a very professional distance from Daniel. "You don't know her."
