Independent Study: Thursday - Period Three

Jones office today was no longer a jumble of boxes. All her books were now neatly organized in bookcases throughout the room and her office was tastefully decorated with several antiques. It seemed rather homey.

On her desk was a plate of muffins from JGOB as well as a carafe of coffee for her students to partake if they so wished.

Jones was currently reading an email from one of her former students as she waited for her class to arrive. If it involved a certain amount of hilarity regarding Andrew's first foray into the Gillitie forest, it did not show on Jones' face.

"Whether you get drunk tonight will not matter to me. I have no feeling on the matter nor any feelings in that case. And while you will probably shorten your life span due to drugs and alcohol and there is little that I can do about it I am curious how any authority figure could earn your trust."

"By actually giving a shit," Sparkle muttered, bunching his shoulders and ducking his head and wishing he could weasel his way out of this conversation with the power of his mind alone, "instead of pretending to care just so long as it's convenient or they're getting paid to or something."

Like, could he just crawl out of his skin to escape? Was that even an option? Could it be?

"Unfortunately I do not have the ability to give a shit," Jones replied. "However I will support you in your endeavors in this class as it is my responsibility. Would it help to know that the school's salary means nothing to me?"

"No," Sparkle muttered. "Not really. But I guess if you can't care, it would be stupid to want you to try. Anyway, it doesn't happen often, except, like, around here. And I'm always surprised when it does."

He was also leaning forward to thump his forehead against the nearest solid surface. So, there was that.

"Banging your head will only aggravate you more," Jones advised. "Very well. Next week let me know where you are in the process of securing a location for your performance and provide a list of musicals you would like to produce."

See? That had to be true. And here he might have tried to weasel for more time, any other week. Sigh.
