Independent Study: Thursday - Period Three
Jones office today was no longer a jumble of boxes. All her books were now neatly organized in bookcases throughout the room and her office was tastefully decorated with several antiques. It seemed rather homey.
On her desk was a plate of muffins from JGOB as well as a carafe of coffee for her students to partake if they so wished.
Jones was currently reading an email from one of her former students as she waited for her class to arrive. If it involved a certain amount of hilarity regarding Andrew's first foray into the Gillitie forest, it did not show on Jones' face.

Class discussion
She paused for a moment to reflect on that prior statement. She was unsure why she volunteered such information. Interesting.
"Today you were to bring a chosen research topic and hopefully solid foundation of where you wish to go with your project. If you are like most teenagers you no doubt waited until last night to do the assignment so more than likely we will spend today actually working on the assignment than reviewing it."
Jones paused again to reflect on her statement. Curious.
"Apparently there is something about today that is allowing me to speak more honestly than I usually do. I apologize in advance if this causes you any discomfort. However I do not feel any emotions as normal humans do so my apology is prompted more from social necessity than and desire to provide you with solace. Let's begin with reviewing your research topics and try to avoid any personal revelations."

This... was only a little more candid than she would have been otherwise.
"I suppose doing so will have to suffice, as I am researching the magic of this island already."

...
"I hate this island."
Hey, look! It had to be true! Sparkle wrinkled his nose, looking disgusted for a moment, and then shook his head and crossed his arms over his chest.
"I was talking to Doctor Lecter about doing a musical, and I decided I have two options, depending on what resources I can dig up. If I can convince the people running the Boards to give me rehearsal space and let me use the stage and their equipment for a show, I'll do something with a pretty decently sized cast. I mean, like, if anybody actually wants to audition for something being directed by a kid with no directing experience and only a bit of acting experience in the first place." Exasperated sigh. "If I can't get the rehearsal space and use of the stage and equipment, I was thinking of maybe studying a script and doing a one-man show, myself. Doctor Lecter even offered to play piano if I need it."

Re: Class discussion
That was far more blunt than she had meant to be.
Re: Class discussion
Jones wondered for a moment if that statement was made to see Sparkle's reaction or if she was compelled to do so. She decided to keep her mouth shut to see what Sparkle's reaction would be anyway.

"As if my hair is the weirdest thing anyone who knows the island sees around here on a regular basis," he snarked. And then shoved his hands into his pockets and scowled. "It's fine. I'll talk to them myself, thanks. Probably the day after I spend a night nerving myself up to it with booze and pot, but it's nothing I can't handle."

Re: Class discussion
... Fucking awesome.
"And I'll probably get drunk tonight anyway because today fucking sucks, with all the... honesty and shit."
Yessir.
"I was going to hit up the library for scripts anyway. Like hell I have time to write and direct a musical. Those things take years for playwrights to get down and I can't write music."

Like, could he just crawl out of his skin to escape? Was that even an option? Could it be?

He was also leaning forward to thump his forehead against the nearest solid surface. So, there was that.

Re: Class discussion
See? That had to be true. And here he might have tried to weasel for more time, any other week. Sigh.
"Maybe... after the island starts behaving itself again."
