Faculty Meeting (Friday after classes)

After the student council cleared out, Zoe got the council room set up for yet another meeting, hoping all the teachers had gotten her handwavey email. Sure, classes had only been in session for a week, but she figured it was a good idea to check the new teachers for shell shock early. There were warm food and drinks set out (not the leftovers from the student council... at least, not totally) but nothing alcoholic. If people wanted to go that route, they would have to bring their own this time.

"Hello there, come on in and have a seat if you'd like," she said. "I thought it might be good for everyone to have a chance to get together without students around, and be inside where it's warm. I hope everyone's had a good first week. If you haven't, well, now you have a room full of people to vent to." It was the little things that helped make this job better.

"That's quite a hypothetical clan you've established," Obi-Wan said. "I'm sure there are old Jedi Masters rolling in their graves."

Not him. He suspected the initial shock of the severity of what Anakin had been hiding from them had shorted out his ability to get upset about anything so small past it.

"They help to reestablish the Order, every single one," Anakin said, skimming past what Jacen did after that. "So I like to think I'm being allowed to pay for my transgressions that way as well."

Said grandchildren had a much different view on what dear ol' Granddad had left them as a legacy.

"That is a great deal of pressure to put on them," Obi-Wan said quietly. "Do they know you think that way?"

Anakin shrugged. "Probably. They're very perceptive."

[saddeserthermit]

"As pleased as I am to hear the Order has not been lost for good," Obi-Wan said, "I hope you do realize their actions are their own. You cannot simply burden them with a portion of your own guilt."

Anakin nodded. "I never mentioned it to Luke--he wanted to rebuild it all on his own."

Almost obsessively, really.

"Good," Obi-Wan said.

Again, he wouldn't ask. Whatever shape the future took in his own version of this timeline, it would happen as it did. Enough damage had been done chasing visions.

"But I suggest you stop claiming their efforts for your own. It does no one any good." He cast Anakin a look. "Which is not to say I feel you should be wallowing in your guilt."

Truthfully, he wasn't sure exactly what he expected of Anakin now, which contributed to the strangeness considerably.

Anakin took another sip from his mug. "How would you prefer that I act, then?"

Obi-Wan slid his hands into his sleeves. "I don't know," he said eventually.

Anakin let out a frustrated little breath. "Well, let me know when you figure it out."

"I'm sorry," Obi-Wan said sarcastically, "Am I not coming around fast enough for you?"

Anakin made a face at him. "Not entirely, no."

"Then this will be an excellent opportunity for you to at last learn patience," Obi-Wan snapped.

It had been less than a week. People didn't even get over the death of distant cousins that quickly, Anakin.

"Fine," Anakin said, stalking away.
