This time, instead of one slightly glower-y robe wearing man in the front of the classroom, the students were treated to two! One tall, one shorter, standing an awkward distance apart and trying not to make too much eye contact while not looking like they were avoiding each other.

It was a difficult thing to do without looking really, really tense and...there were not doing it particularly well.

"I'm Anakin Skywalker," Anakin began, shutting the door at precisely the time class began. "This is ethics, and there are a lot of you in here, so we'll have to insist on you being on time and quiet as we're speaking."

"Indeed. As for me, I am Obi-Wan Kenobi," Obi-Wan said. He glowered rather less than Anakin, thank you very much, though awkward... yes. "As the school board has seen it fit to grant this class two teachers. With that out of the way, we welcome you to class. Ethics is a broad but all-encompassing discipline, more of a way of life than simply a field of study. We must all develop our personal ethics as circumstances and personality dictates, of course, but there are central issues we must all test ourselves on."

Anakin didn't make a comment about setting anyone on fire after making two or three very minor..ish errors in judgement! He was so proud of himself. "I've always run this class as a discussion," he said instead, "and recognize that what is clearly right and wrong in my worldview might not be true in yours. As long as you make a compelling argument, I'm prepared to listen."

Just don't try to eat the robobabies this semester, okay? Okay.

"We trust that you will all remain civil," Obi-Wan said, though privately he somewhat doubted that Anakin would. Call it experience. "If not, measures will be taken. Now that that is out of the way, I am told that it is customary for this class to begin with a round of two truths and a lie. Anakin?"

"That is true," Anakin said. "Give us your name, then two things that are true and one that is not. And we'll know because we're Jedi and we can sense the truth. To help you out, we'll also offer up two truths and a lie." He schooled his face to stillness. "I have been married twice. I've saved Obi-Wan's life ten times, and I love the beach."

If Anakin expected Obi-Wan to react, he did not. Though he had a fairly decent idea of which one was a lie-- which meant he had more questions for later, Anakin. "As for myself," he said, "I once received a rock as a birthday gift, I've won a battle by playing dejarik, and I once spent a year living on an ocean planet."

He was keeping his own neutral. Partly also to avoid making any comments about Cato Neimoidia.

You were hilariously high on that planet, Obi-Wan. Anakin totally saved your life. "Right, then," Anakin said after giving Obi-Wan a neutral look of his own. "You." He pointed to the nearest student. "Name, two truths and a lie."

Eleanor was chewing thoughtfully on her lower lip.

"The beach one is the least specific," she said. "The others have numbers. I'd say that's the lie."

Elsa really couldn't begin to guess at this one, knowing nothing at all about Obi-Wan beyond what she saw here today, but she did muster up the courage to speak up, if only to ask, "Excuse me, but... what's dejarik?"

Knowing what in the world it was might at least help her try to picture how one might win a battle by playing it.

The last one was supposed to be a lie, as Ichabod considered himself quite skilled by now in matters of the internet, compared to when he first arrived here. All a matter of perspective, perhaps.

Alex realized how the last two sounded once she said them out loud but they were the only things she could think of when she was coming up with her answer.

Well, a fairly spectacular singing voice, but she wasn't lying about that last part so much as being humble about it.

Any amusement that Ronan had been feeling was gone now. He rolled his eyes when it came to be his turn but pushed through. Best behavior, right? Fuck Gansey.

"I ate a cookie for breakfast this morning. I slept like a baby last night. I speak Latin."

His constant insomnia kept the middle one from being a truth but he wasn't letting on either way.

Wow, so, while Karina was pretty sure she'd be setting off the teachers' lie detector-ing sense or whatever it was at some point this semester, she didn't really want to start the class by failing the assignment.

Which meant she probably should avoid anything… important.

"I'm Karina Lyle," she started off with since they were supposed to introduce themselves first, right? "I was born in New York, I can't cook anything more complicated than toast, and I can drive a motorcycle."

There. She actually felt pretty pleased with herself for her dissembling. It was all nice and innocuous.

Well. She hadn't personally broken them herself, of course but she thought it still counted. Semantics. She certainly couldn't drive a car (or at least, no one here wanted her to unless they were feeling especially cavalier about their own mortality.)

If the professors could really tell when people were lying, Amy resolved to keep her mouth shut as much as possible.

"Hi, I'm Amy," she said with an awkward half-wave. "I used to be Homecoming Queen, my mom was Miss America in the nineties and I'm allergic to peanuts."

The middle one was the lie -- Miss Texas was as far as Farrah Raudenfeld ever got.

"My name is Cosette Fauchelevent. I work in the library," Cosette began, "I'm not an only child, and when I was very little I used to amuse myself by cutting the heads off of flies."

Yes, she'd decided on the lie partly because it gave her some tiny measure of satisfaction at the idea of how horrified the Thénardiers would be if they knew she'd so much as implied being related to them. Not that she would admit to that.

Eleanor wasn't sure of the point of this game, and was trying not to be too self-conscious to be taking an Ethics class. Father would approve, she hoped.

"My name is Eleanor Holloway," she said, which might surprise her friends, come to think of it. "I have two older brothers, I grew up at the bottom of the ocean, and my mother killed my father."

Biologically, she'd been an only child, though she'd been mind-linked to any number of Sisters, not to mention Grace adopting both herself and Louise. But she'd never had a brother.

It took Kathy a few minutes to come up with her two truths and a lie. For one thing, she was really bad at lying and she knew it. "I'm Kathy Li," she said, once she'd figured it out. "I speak three languages and am working on learning a fourth, I prefer to take the rooftop road when I'm in the city, and I have a hard time concentrating in class."

Maybe the fact that she almost thrummed with suppressed energy would help her sell that last one?

The third one was the lie, which might also have something to do with how convincing he sounded.

Minako was tempted to lead with 'I'm from Japan,' but, well, anyone who ever talked to her for more than ten minutes figured that out.

She put on her best poker face. "My blood type is B, my favorite food is curry, and my best subject is math."

He was well aware that they'd consider those scores physically impossible for a non-Jedi human. That just made him all the more determined.

Yes, Kaylin could count. She was born in the fiefs, in her mind at least she already was a Hawk, and the name she had been given was not Kaylin Neya.
