Classics/Foreign Lit, 2/28, Period 2

Dream has brought in coffee, tea and juice for his students this morning.

Foreign Lit: Your midterm assignment is to pick one of the works or writers we have studied thus far and write or wiki/Google a 200 word critical reaction. This is due at the end of class Thursday. You may have this class period to begin work.

Classics: As I did last term, we will begin with an oral midterm. You have 20 minutes to review ancient Greek grammar and pronunciation, then please come to my desk one at a time for a brief conversation in Greek.

On Thursday, you will have class time to write a 100 word critical reaction to any piece of Greek literature that we have studied, or a comparable work.

[OOC: The written exams are due for real at some point before the end of spring break; I'll remind you again next week. It's 25 percent of your grade.]

"You're one of the Endless," said Janet. "I read about you. In the library. Why do you--enter dreams? Is that what you do?" She doesn't sound afraid, but curious.

Janet's lips tightened. "I didn't mean to upset you," she said. "It's a difficult concept for me.

You're here, aren't you?" asked Janet. "Talking to me. So how is it that you also are dreams? I've always thought dreams are individual, from a person's mind."

Janet's eyes widened minutely. Well. That was interesting. "Trying to understand someone isn't necessarily examining them under a microscope," she said, switching to English as well.

"Analysis is what I know," said Janet. "Not mysticism."

"There are an infinite number of realities." Including ones in which she hadn't died, and probably ones in which she'd never been born. "So that...makes some sense."

Janet nodded. She probably couldn't get away with asking Dream if he knew Oma Desala, but he was sounding just like Daniel's descriptions of her.

"Just one," said Janet. Will we be covering Hebrew this semester? Or just Greek and Latin?

At least the constant studying had paid off. She finally was starting to feel competent with this language.

Janet nodded. "I agree." Hebrew had been the language she struggled with the most anyway. And yet... "Can you recommend a good book on Hebrew, then?" she asked. "I enjoyed it last semester."

Turn down a challenge? Never.

"Thank you," said Janet, taking the paper that Professor Dream had written on. She glanced quickly at the clock. "I'm more interested in ancient contexts, but modern will be helpful too."

"I'd appreciate that," said Janet. "Thank you."
