Comprehending Science & Technology, 1st Period - Monday

"Welcome to class," Tony said once he was pretty sure the trickle of students was finished. "I know, I know. Monday mornings aren't really my thing either. Bring a lot of coffee. Maybe some for me if you want extra credit."

And, let's be honest,  he'd probably drink it all if each student brought in an extra cup fir him. Coffee was part of the scientific process, you see.

"Today's easy because I don't know who all--well most of you are. We'll have to change that and hope it sticks. Try to be memorable."

Tony went to the board before frowning at the fact that there was chalk there. He was going to have to bring in his own toys for next week. But he soldiered on, writing out: 'name', 'why are you here?', and 'favorite piece of tech?'

Then he took a step back to make sure that's all he wanted to ask before putting the chalk down and wiping the dust off on his pants. "I'll go first,  I'm Tony Stark. Some of you might know me and I might know you. It's hit or miss so far. I'm here to teach. And I have to say my favorite piece of tech, other than my suit, is my phone."

Both of which he made, so.  Grain of salt,  kids.

"Your turn."

"I'm Johnny Storm, flame on," Johnny said casually as he stood up so as not to burn his desk. What? Tony wanted memorable. "I'm here because I have a bet with my sister to see if I retained anything from all of my science tutoring over the years. I'm betting no, but if I do well, I'll get a prototype car designed by someone at the Baxter Building. And my favorite piece of tech is that car that I want so badly. Flame off."

"Well, if it's Reed designing it, I'm sure it'll be destroyed after it's stolen by the mole people or something ridiculous," Tony replied. Because his Reed wasn't crazy or evil.

That he knew of.

"Hi, Johnny."

Right now, neither was Johnny's. As far as he knew.

"Reed's gone right now, after the thing with Magneto and Doom that happened a bit ago. Or maybe hasn't happened for you. Or maybe won't," Johnny said. "Alternate realities, amirite? Anyway, Sue dumped and fired him."

Barry shrugged when it came time for him to talk. "My name is Barry Ween. I'm here because there have apparently been some other Starks here and I wanted to see what you were all about. And my favorite piece of tech is my image inducer."

And with that he pressed a button on his wristband. His appearance swiftly changed via hologram to Ricky Schroeder. From the Silver Spoon years.

"I'm pretty sure there were a couple versions of you here before," Barry said with a shrug as he deactivated the inducer. "Or at least it seemed that way from the news podcasts."

"My name is Four and no, not because my parents hate me," Four said, cutting that off hopefully from the beginning, "and not because I have siblings One, Two and Three. Back home, I'm part of the group who works on perimeter security, so I like computers. I think my favorite bit of tech is the microwave, though. Microwave popcorn is amazing."

If someone ever taught him to cook cake in a coffee mug, he might balloon to being a billion pounds.

The defensivness over the name had Tony grinning during Four's introduction, at least. "Microwaves are good. How else would we uncultured be able to 'cook'?"

"Well, back home we kind of do the communal dining thing," Four admitted. "We have cooks."

He'd starve here without the microwave.

"Hello, it's nice to meet you, Mister Stark," said Cosette with a nod of greeting. "My name is Cosette, and this place is home now. We came from Paris before that, though, and it was 1829 when we left there a year ago."

She paused and laughed. "Goodness, has it really been an entire year already?"

Ahem. Sorry about the digression.

"And so you might be able to imagine, science and technology are still rather new to me, but that only makes them more interesting." Because she was a gigantic nerd. Who talked a lot, sorry, Tony. "I'm rather fond of most of it that I've encountered so far, but my phone may be my favorite, since I can look things up wherever I go, and take pictures, and . . . so many things I can do with something so small."

Again, Tony, sorry about all the talking.

Hey, now. No need to apologize with the time travel and all. Just don't end up being a genocidal dictator or anything.

"Tony, please. Only my employees call me Mr. Stark. And reporters. Sometimes SHIELD when I've done something they don't like. So, all the time." He had a gift! "Anyway, let me know when things get too... technical and I'll try to rein it in."

Given her canon, that would be the height of irony.

Which meant that there was probably an alternate universe out there where exactly that had happened.

"I'll make sure to do that," Cosette said, "but I'll make sure not to be too much of a nuisance about it."

"I'm Gwen Stacy, and I'm part of the smartphone generation," she said. All the tech she could ever need! "I know you, but I'm not sure you know me? I dunno, alternate universe things are confusing. I'm here because my guardian thought it'd be a good idea to take your class."

At least Aunt May wasn't inviting any Tonys to everything yet.

"Hi!" Rapunzel enthused, waving excitedly. "I'm Rapunzel, and I'm here because we don't have most of the modern technology they use here at home and I'm really excited to learn all about it, and there's a ton of stuff I still haven't figured out even after being here since the summer. Like how do computers even work? I know they're not magic, but you just type something into it and it does what you want, and it's amazing."

Slow down, Rapunzel. You're going to get light-headed if you don't take a breath.

"And my favorite piece of technology that I own, personally? Barry made me a hat that puts my hair in another dimension," she told the class excitedly, helpfully pointing at Barry in case they had any doubt as to who she meant. "It's really, really neat, and it's super-helpful if I have to go anywhere, like, on the mainland. And if I don't want it stepped on. That happens a lot."

Hence why she'd taken a couple of minutes at the beginning of class to pool her hair under her desk. No one needed to trip over that, thank you.

"Well, hopefully there aren't any monsters living in that dimension looking to annihilate us all. Keep an eye on that. "

"My name is Andros," Andros said, "and I don't know you. I'm not from Earth, so I'd like to have a better understanding of the technology here. My favorite piece of technology is my Galaxy Glider." Wait, were they supposed to stick to Earth technology? Whatever. His Galaxy Glider was currently on Earth.

"I'm Nathan," he said once it was his turn. "Being around technology for too long tends to make me ill. Literally and physically. But it's such a big thing around here that I want to try and learn what different things do."

He took a breath.

"And of the few pieces of tech that I have? I like tablets. They've been helping me learn to read."

Anna was wringing her hands together. All of these conversations about alternate universes were confusing. Especially since some of these people somehow knew each other, but didn't? Even worse, she had no idea what most of the technology pieces these people were talking about even were.

She wasn't sure if it should be a relief, to find out that her big sibling was extra-good at technology. Maybe he'd explain this to her.

"I'm Anna, of Arendelle," she said, offering Mr. Stark a proper curtsy. "I'm here because I don't know about any of this and I'd like to? It seems like -- things are a lot different here than they were back home. I don't -- have any technology myself? But the restrooms here are very nice."

Indoor plumbing. Hot water on demand. A girl could get spoiled.

Don't you worry, Anna. You'll be indoctrinated soon enough. The wonder of the smartphone would soon consume her life.

"Indoor plumbing! That... certainly counts," Tony replied. "Also a great thing to have around. I'm guessing from the past?"

"Hi!" Cecil grinned and waved. "I'm Cecil Palmer. I decided to take this class because my boyfriend's a scientist, and I just think science is neat and want to learn all about it! And I think I'm sort of contractually obligated to say radio's my favorite, but right now I really love my phone, too, because it lets me call home and talk to ♥Carlos♥."
