Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were chairs and tables set up all across the lawn; some were by the bonfire, for the people who wanted to be warm and central to everything else at the picnic, and some were set farther away from the action, for the people who wanted more peace and quiet.

There was no escaping the glitter though. Sorry, but not really.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Alana was in an unusually good mood as she got to the welcome picnic, wings hidden for the moment under her winter cloak. It was nice to see everybody again after two weeks at home, and the fact new people were involved made the event even better.

She made a plate of nachos and took it over to a picnic table where she could sit and check out the new people. (Maybe there'd even be somebody from the Coalition, though 18 months in she wasn't holding her breath on that one.)

"Hey there. Welcome back," Johnny said, walking up to Alana. He was dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, naturally. "How was your time back home?"

"Not bad," Alana said, giving him a friendly ogle and reaching for a hug. "I mean, it kind of reminded me why I came to boarding school, but it was nice and relaxing. Mostly. Were you here the whole time?"

"I wandered off home for Christmas, but I've been around since last weekend," Johnny said, hugging her back. "Things have been pretty quiet. I probably should have stayed home to fight some crime, but there's always time for that later."

"That sounds nice, and it doesn't seem like you're running out of criminals back home anytime soon," Alana nodded. "Which is good, right? You can't be a superhero if you don't have anybody to fight."

"Well, if we got rid of all the criminals, there would still be monsters to fight. And if we got rid of those, I'd just have to move on to other ways of being famous. I'm thinking rock stardom," Johnny mused.

"Can you sing?" Alana wondered. "Or does that even matter?"

"Not well. And I can kind of play guitar," Johnny said. "But that's what autotune and bandmates are for."

"True. I'd offer to be a groupie but that would be gross," Alana told him, smirking. "I an do 'muse,' though,if you want."

"You want me to write a song about you?" Johnny asked. "It might not be great because I've been out of practice, but I could do it."

"I was just goofing," Alana said, clearly surprised by the offer. "But if you can, yeah. Wow. Nobody's ever said they'd write me a song before."

"Anything for you. I mean, not a good, really well played song. But anything besides that," Johnny joked.

"Oh, well, if it's not the best song ever just forget it," Alana joked. "I'll go ask the other wannabe rock star I'm dating to write me a better one."

You know. The nonexistent one.

"Don't make me go all Taylor Swift and write a song about how you wronged me for another wanna be rock star," Johnny joked. "That's just going to make me mega famous."

"So, you get famous, and I get famous as the chick all your songs are about? I'm not seeing the down side there," Alana said thoughtfully. "Wait, except for the part where I'd have to dump you. I've gotten kind of used to you."

This was Alana's way of telling Johnny she liked him. Maybe. A little bit.

"Yeah, and it's been so long since I've so much as made out with anyone that isn't you that I'm not sure I even remember how to do it," Johnny said. "I'd be sad, confused about kissing... I don't know how I would write that song."

There was a message in there, too. And it wasn't that he wanted to be making out with other girls.

He did want to, of course. But he hadn't been.

Yeah, Alana caught that subtle implication,and it startled the song banter out of her.

"Wait, really?" she said. "Like, even though we totally could be playing tonsil hockey with other people, neither of us has been?"

This was starting to sound like a relationship!

"Well, we both put out, too, so that helps our case for each other," Johnny said.

"... you know, that reasoning works for me," Alana decided.

"Also, I just kind of like you more than the other girls around here. That helps, too," Johnny said.

"Definitely, especially since I like you more than the other guys right back," Alana nodded, nervously picking at a stray thread on the hem of her shirt.

She drew a deep breath. "Should we try to make this a thing? Like ... an official relationship thing?"

"If it blows up in our faces, then I think we'll at least have fun until then," Johnny said. "I say we give it a shot."

Holy shit, he said yes. Alana hadn't been certain Johnny would; she was going to play her question off as a very awkward joke if he didn't.

"Awesome," she decided, offering her hand for a high five. "And yeah, even if we crash and burn it'll kick ass up until then. Besides, nothing's really going to change, right? We're just sticking a label on things that have been there for a while."

"Those smell amazing," Anna said, lured over by the delicious scent of some kind of cheese -- sauce. Cheese sauce? "Sorry! I mean. Can I ask where you got those?"

Just in case she could offer something, in exchange, she volunteered, "There's a fountain entirely made of chocolate that you can stick things in."

Being helpful. Food this good was for sharing.

"Over on that table, with all the sandwiches and stuff," Alana gestured. "They're really good. Where's the chocolate fountain? I might hit it up once I finish this plate."

She smiled. "Hi, by the way. I'm Alana."
