Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were chairs and tables set up all across the lawn; some were by the bonfire, for the people who wanted to be warm and central to everything else at the picnic, and some were set farther away from the action, for the people who wanted more peace and quiet.

There was no escaping the glitter though. Sorry, but not really.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Celia, swathed in a warm cloak (that was a bit enhanced in its warmth, because she was -- as always -- an enormous cheater), as well as multiple petticoats for extra, non-cheating warmth, found herself a spot a bit away from the crowd to people-watch.

This picnic marked a full year that she'd been here. It was almost dizzying, when she actually stopped to consider that. And that was why she kind of needed some peace and quiet -- it was a good time for reflection, even in the middle of a picnic full of new students.

Plus she wanted to give them a moment before they spotted a girl in clothes a century and a half out of date. She tended act as walking culture-shock at these things, she'd found.

Raven, on the other hand, was sporting a sleeveless dress without a single care for the cold weather. She wandered her way over to Celia at some point and sat down beside her.

"So," she asked. "Broken any brains yet?"

"Not yet, but the day is young," Celia said with a small smile. "I'm trying to be kind, this time around. Let the poor things ease into it."

Pause.

"You know, as much as they can before frogs start raining down, or something."

"That's probably a good way to do it," Raven said. "Though they might surprise you. My new roommate's doing really well. I manifested wings in front of her and all she did was gape and cover her mouth."

"You got a new roommate?" Celia asked, surprised. "I didn't know they switched it mid-semester like that." She was suddenly a little afraid that Alana might be taken away and swapped with someone far less interesting (and accommodating.) "But that's quite a good reaction for her to have, especially on her first day."

"For the second time, even," Raven said. "Chuck left awhile ago, so I've had the place to myself until today. She's doing really well. There was a little bit of worry that her face might randomly catch on fire, but I told her that was just a Jono thing."

"Absolutely just a Jono thing," Celia agreed readily. "And if her face catches on fire, we have plenty of people who can put it out, anyway, and even more who can heal it. She'll be fine -- though all of that probably isn't especially reassuring if one's not used to magic and the like."

"Apparently the weirdest thing her old school got was random political rallies in the middle of class," Raven said. "I think she might have just reached an early limit of how much shock she could drum up at weird things."

Celia wrinkled her nose. "Random political rallies? Can you imagine how that'd go over here? It was bad enough when my big sibling and my roommate were both running for student council, and all of that generally involved cupcakes or glitter or both."

"I thought it sounded kind of neat, actually," Raven said. "Getting up and trying to make change happen. Though I guess if you're just interrupting a class, you probably not affecting much past your fellow students."
