Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

//Yet. Possibly ever. Hell if I know, anymore. It could go either way,// Jono replied, shaking Tony's hand firmly and then crossing his arms over his chest. //At least, around here, it could. I'm Starsmore. Jonothon Starsmore. Occasional member of the X-Men, if that means anything to you at all.//

Again, even odds one way or another, wasn't there?

"Oh, one of Xavier's group." Not that he spent much time with the X-Men, but they did exist where he was from at least. "Probably explains the--"

He pointed at his ears.

"I was worried it was more magic." Ugh. Magic. "Good to meet you, Jonothon."

Jono wrinkled his nose a little, but he wasn't going to deny that yes, he was one of 'Xavier's group.'

He wasn't a big fan of Xavier, these days, either.

//Nah, just run-of-the-mill, boring mutant telepathy,// he confirmed. //I couldn't do a magic trick if my life depended on it.//

He could probably make somebody think he had. But that involved cheating telepathically.

//So, what brings you to the island, Tony?//

"A bit of forced vacation," he said with a sigh. Which somehow meant teaching. Pepper had a poor sense of humor and was not getting a raise this year. "I got ganged up on to take a break from The Avengers."

Steve and Pepper weren't allowed to do that.

//And they sent you here? To take a break? Hm. The Avengers have more of a sense of humour than I thought,// Jono mused, shaking his head a little. //So, you'll be teaching this semester, hm?//

"Yeah, they're a real laugh riot. You should see T'Challa when he gets going." he never got going. Let's be honest. "And yep. Science and technology. Try not to be shocked."

Well, now Jono was picturing the Black Panther partying down.

The mental image did not disappoint.

//I'll somehow contain my surprise,// Jono deadpanned. //Powers and identity. Teach what you know, hm? Though we're both liable to have a student or two who'll give us a run for our money. This place likes to keep teachers on their toes about as much as the students, it seems.//

It was an amazing mental image, was it not?

"Just as long as none of them end up trying to destroy part of New York with their talents."

Jono was going to take that mental image with him and dream about it tonight, and it would be glorious.

//I don't think anybody's done that since I was going to school here,// he offered. //So that's been...//

He did some math, because going by how long it felt to him, personally, really wasn't going to help anybody.

//... Four years? Four years since the last time any students from here have tried to destroy New York. That I'm aware of.//

"Pretty good record. All things considered."

Ish?

"It could be worse."

//Could be,// Jono agreed. //Of course, you really only specified New York.//

It hadn't been nearly so long since the last time one of the students tried to destroy something, he was sure.

"Fine, fine. They can destroy... Latveria."

Yes, that was fine by Tony.

Jono would have snorted if he was able, right then. Okay, maybe this Tony wouldn't be so bad.

Really, it seemed like the only ones who were really easy to loathe were all of the people from his own world. Go figure.

//Oh, excellent. I'm certain Doom will enjoy that. We only just got him to leave, you know.//

Okay, it had been a while ago. And he'd gone of his own accord, but still, it wasn't like Jono could resist the urge to mention that Fandom used to be Doom's stomping grounds, too.

"Doom was here?" Tony asked. "Victor Von Doom. About yay high and has unending self esteem. Talks about himself in the third person a lot. That Doom?"

//Green cloak, ridiculous mask, egomaniacal fetish for unleashing robots that look exactly like him? Same Doom. Used to live in the mansion just over there. Named it Doomhaus, because that's just how ridiculous he is. A friend of mine is living there now, but yes. That Doom.//

"That... sounds about right for Doom," Tony replied. "Nice to hear he never changes."

//Doom is Doom, no matter where you go,// Jono agreed, shrugging. //If all else fails, at least you can count on that to be a constant in the universe. Doom will always be absurd.//

Unless you were from the MCU. Or owned by Sony.

"That and him to hate Reed Richards." It was hilarious if you asked Tony. Because Reed was still confused by the 'rivalry'.

Reed was many things! Sometimes, 'swift on the uptake' was not one of them.

//And that,// Jono agreed, amused. //Doom hates Richards, Apocalypse hates humanity, and I'm fairly certain that Thor hates trousers that don't chafe.//

Said the walking band-aid.

"No, Thor hates technology," Tony replied. "And loves his cape."

Jono spread his hands a little.

//I'll take my two out of three,// he decided. //I've only met the man a few times.//

Which was sort of sad, considering he taught here.

//And it is a nice cape.//

"Very red and billow-y," Tony allowed. Not that Tony knew about the Thor here either. God help him. "So, I was warned about gremlins."

Seriously. Gremlins?

Oh, now Jono looked extra amused.

//There is no way for me to explain gremlins in a way that makes me look anything but absolutely insane until you've actually seen what happens when somebody runs into one.//

"...that bad?"

//Little green sadistic bastards with extremely hallucinogenic venom,// Jono tried, raising his eyebrows. //Might lead to cross-dressing, or loudly singing show-tunes, or any other manner of embarrassing blackmail fodder.//
