Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of moddable food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I wouldn't even call it training. He had a rough life before we found each other. But once we did, I treated him well, and he came to trust and listen to me," Bruce said. "Most dogs need a little more structure than that. But Ace makes good decisions, with some guidance."

Jono nodded a little, thoughtfully. That actually made more sense to him than some sort of dog-and-master dynamic.

//More a partner, less a pet,// he offered, looking back up at Bruce. //You've got an understanding between you. He needed you.//

He couldn't speak for Bruce, of course. He didn't dare presume that Bruce needed Ace in turn, though he figured it would be a fair conclusion to come to. It seemed to be, in cases like this. Most people didn't just rescue troubled animals and work to earn their trust because they'd look good with the furniture.

//He needs a bit of distance from most people, then? So I know to keep an extra step back for his sake, in the future.//

"It's not a bad idea," Bruce said. "But he should be fine as long as I'm around."

//Good to hear,// Jono decided, and then gave a little nod down at the dog. //It was a pleasure to meet you, Ace. And Bruce, welcome back.//

Joni was agreeing in her own way. Mostly by having one paw out of Jono's pocket by now and attempting to reach Ace's nose with it. That... was not going to happen. Not from where Jono was standing, and not any time even remotely soon.
