The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

//And there's always a catch, isn't there?// Jono looked out over the teenagers, picking out a few new faces in the crowd. //If you're here for anything resembling a safe teaching experience, for example, you're on the wrong island.//

"Oh, trust me," Obi-Wan said, "I have never had much luck with safe teaching experiences."

He glanced towards Jono again. "What does 'unsafe' entail here?"

Jono shrugged his shoulders easily.

//It changes up to keep us on our toes,// he explained. //Not long ago, it was ghosts, trying to take over the locals. Occasionally people get grabbed right up and dumped into other realities, alternate timelines, darker echoes of things that shouldn't have ever been. The whole of the multiverse started vanishing, once... Just started disappearing entirely. Fandom doesn't do danger by half-measures, I'm afraid. Though I'd be willing to wager you have a bit of experience with danger, yourself. You're Jedi, right?//

Obi-Wan considered denying it. After all, he was still attempting to fly under the radar - though he was starting to get the distinct impression this island was as under the radar as it got.

But no. He had apparently already been found out.

"The robes are a bit of a giveaway, I suppose."

//They aren't exactly subtle,// Jono agreed, shrugging his shoulders. //We've had our fair share of people sporting ones like them, over the years. Hell, probably everybody who ever sported the name 'Skywalker' for a few generations running, and others, besides. If you were hoping to blend in, you probably should've done some shopping before the picnic, mate.//

"Perhaps," Obi-Wan said, "However, the last time I went shopping, I also ran into some trouble."

To put it mildly.

But there was something else far more important. "You saw several generations of Skywalker?"

//Familiar with them, are you?// Jono shrugged his shoulders a little. //They're sort of a household name around here, though I think Anakin's the only one sticking around, these days. Don't quote me on that one. I've been doing a lot of travel, lately. It's hard to live on Fandom for long without getting to know at least one of them.//

Sorry, Anakin. It wasn't like Jono knew things were weird between you two right now.

"I've heard of them," Obi-Wan said. Carefully.

It might have been the greatest understatement he'd make all day.

"Anakin, I've seen. Which other Skywalkers were here?"

//Er...// Jono was giving Obi-Wan a thoughtful side-eye. //Well, I was good friends with his grandson, back when I went to school here. And I know his son was a student at some point, I think before I ever was. I don't know most of them by name, mind.//

And the ones he did, he was suddenly not entirely certain he ought to be talking about.

People asking questions carefully tended to raise those flags for him. Maybe that was just what came of spending so much time around the bull-in-the-china-shop that was Karla, lately? Whatever the case was, he was definitely not mentioning the little ones, now.

His grandson.

Obi-Wan knew better than to take it as read that meant Luke would survive well into adulthood, of course. But it was a promising sign. "I see," he said.

He gave Jono a respectful nod, and held up his currently kitten-occupied hand. "Thank you."

//Of course... anything to help a new teacher settle in, and all,// Jono replied, reaching to take Joni back, and tucking her back into his pocket. //Afraid I didn't catch your name, mate. I'm Jonothon. Starsmore.//

He was now offering a hand to shake. Because this man's hands had been previously occupied with kitten, and better late than never?

"Kenobi," Obi-Wan said lightly. He gave Jono's hand an easy shake. "Professor now, apparently. It was a pleasure to meet Joni and yourself. I hope I'll see you in the halls."

He was still avoiding the first name issue. At least until Anakin had explained himself.

And wouldn't it be fun once he learned the name of Anakin's grandson? Eventually?

//I'm certain you'll see me around,// Jono replied, nodding. //If you need anything to help you settle in, I'm... well, I'm not actually around as much as I used to be, but I can probably make time.//

A beat, and then he added, a little wryly, //Maybe even something to wear that won't scream 'Jedi' to the island at large, if that's something you were hoping not to broadcast to the masses.//
