fandomhigh | Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of ~~moddable~~ food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I know a version of your Elsa. We're..."

He paused a second because the last time he told an Anna that he was dating her sister it got weird.

Like this wasn't weird enough.

"Friends. So your Elsa sent you here. Because of Hans? Who the fuck is he?"

"My fiance," Anna said, frowning. "Because she doesn't want me getting married yet. She didn't tell you that?"

'Version' did not seem to be sinking in. At all.

"She says I'm too young and closed the gates again, so now I'm at boarding school."

It made sense. More or less.

"Fiancé!" Barry shouted. "You're only fifteen! What the fuck are you doing getting engaged at fifteen?!"

Sorry. Derailed conversation.

"It's TRUE LOVE!" Anna shouted back. "Just because I'm fifteen doesn't mean it's not true love!"

Logic at its finest.

Barry's literally smacked his own face. Hard.

"Okay. Okay. Fine. How old is this guy? How long have you known him?"

Elsa could be pretty reasonable. Surely some of that has rubbed off on Anna.

"He's ... old enough," Anna said, so that she didn't have to explain that she didn't exactly know for sure. "It's not how long you've known someone, anyway. It's how well you know them. And he knows me better than anyone."

That was not actually saying much, Anna.

Barry's suspicions were rising slowly here.

"That's not what I asked."

"Elsa doesn't exactly let me meet people!" Anna exploded. "So it's not fair to say I didn't know him long when she only opened the gates for a single day in ten years!"

"One day?"

Barry groaned and face smacked himself again.

"Are you fucking kidding me?"

"Why does it matter to you?!" Anna asked, her hands on her hips. "You met me five minutes ago! That's a lot less than a day! And besides, it's true love!"

"You can't marry someone you've known for one day!" Barry said throwing his arms in the air. "And it matters to me because I'm your appointed big brother. I'm the one who is supposed to make sure you adapt here easily. I also know another version of you from a similar universe and I'm not going to let you throw your life away on some douchebag you've known for a single day."

He took a deep breath.

"Look. I know Elsa. I also know your history a little," he said now sounding more.... Well rational instead of ranty. "I know it's been hard for you living in a castle shut off from the rest of the world. I know what it's like to have the world kept away from you. You're not going to have that here. You can have friends. You can date someone and get to know them for more than one day. And if you need to talk to someone my door will literally be open for you at any time of the day or night."

Okay, that sounded -- sweet. Like maybe he was concerned about her, not just thinking she was being stupid about Hans. (Which she wasn't. Really.)

"Do you ... mean that?" she asked. "About your door being open?"

In case it made him feel better, she added, "I'm not marrying him yet. That's the deal. I go to boarding school, and meet people, and then if I still want to when I'm eighteen, Elsa gives her blessing."

Thus proving one of the Princesses of Arendelle had a good head on her shoulders.

"I do mean that," Barry said seriously. "And I think it's smart to wait. You have literally people here from around the universe to meet and learn from. Take advantage of that and keep an open mind. And maybe see another person or go on. Date or two. Nothing serious."
