Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The forecast for today might have called for rain, but thankfully, there was no sign of bad precipitation in Fandom. The weather was bright and sunny, but still a bit chilly, so the first thing people might have noticed when they arrived was the bonfire set up in the middle of the lawn. There were tables and chairs scattered around the bonfire, some a safer distance away than others, and each table had been graced with a good portion of gold and blue glitter because the glitter supply was never, ever going to run out and certain people in the administration had just come to terms with that.

There were tables of moddable food and drinks, complete with the ingredients to make s'mores, as well as name tags and the lists of Big Siblings and roommates. It was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Self defense, this semester," Atton said. "Y'know, punching things, blasting things, that kind of thing."

He shrugged lightly. "Right now, I'm here to serve as your teaching buddy," he said. "You got any questions about teaching here, you come to me."

"That is a excellent program to have," Jones commented. "I will no doubt take advantage of having such a resource. Especially with what I am told is a rather diverse student body."

She paused as she surveyed the teachers as well. "The teachers appear to be similarly diverse."

"'Diverse' is a really polite way to put it," Atton said, following her gaze. "'All over the place' also works. 'Weird', probably covers it best. But yeah, we get all kinds around here."

"And what kind would you be?" Jones asked arching one eyebrow ever so slightly.

"The friendly kind who's more than happy to answer your questions?" Atton offered. "And knows how to punch people and throw things with his mind, but mostly the first part."

"A telekinetic trained in battle," Jones commented. "Interesting. And how did you come to Fandom?"

"I won a ticket in a card game," Atton said, which wasn't strictly untrue, but avoided about as many details as could possibly be avoided. "Yourself?"

"I sought alternative employment when my last teaching assignment had completed," Jones replied evenly. "I still retain an advisor position there however it is not a full time commitment."

Atton squinted at her. "You're not a droid, right?" he checked.

Jones was often mistaken for one. However...

"No," she sad flatly. "I'm not. The school here seems to be free of those."

Probably something like Boxbot. Boxbot was the worst.

"Especially if struck with sufficient force," she replied. "Where I'm from however they are mostly useful and at worst an annoyance."

"Ours tend to develop personalities," Atton said, "At which point you better wipe them or scrap them, or you're in trouble."

"Did one become infatuated with you?" Jones asked. "General discouragement usually takes care of awkward situations like these."

"I apologize if what I said was offensive," Jones replied in what appeared to be a sincere manner. "I have a feeling there's some difference between the robots of my world and the droids of yours that I'm not aware of."
