Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Were you a veteran Fandom resident? Did you finish getting your brain broken by your sibling and/or buddy? Did you just want to sit down to recover from the shuttle ride? If so, then there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn just waiting to be filled!

[This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Hatter had never been out to one of these so he was definitely going to come out today. What better way to see all the tiny oysters and take advantage of all the free goodies this island offered.

He pushed his hat back and leaned against a tree, taking everything in while he sipped some water.

"I hadn't thought to see you here," Hannibal said, strolling up to join him for a moment. "Considering teaching, or are you checking out the competition?" He waved at the jugs of iced tea that were probably horribly oversweetened.

"Teaching is definitely not in the plans and that isn't competition at all," Hatter said, giving a disdainful look at the tea. "I'm just here because I had little else to do. This place has been lacking on parties lately. Whether they be tea or some other type of party."

"I should rectify that some time soon," Hannibal mused. "I still haven't had a housewarming for the new place." Maybe once Will had agreed to join him here. "How have you been, apart from bored?"

"Not terrible," he answered easily enough. "I managed to visit my home a few days ago and made sure my tea shop was still in one piece. It was. And one of the police officers gave me a ticket for annoying her."

"That's good to hear," Hannibal answered about the first. Then raised an eyebrow. "Is that a crime now? How annoying were you?"

"Am I ever annoying?" Hatter asked, shaking his head. "I was giving her suggestions to make life on the island a little less hellish for her. She seemed unhappy and I was trying to be helpful."

"So, in other words, very," Hannibal interpreted with a chuckle.

"Hardly!" Hatter argued, shaking his head. "I was just trying to be the helpful person that I am. She was very cross with the world and I didn't see any bloody reason for it. Poor thing, she probably just needs a hug."

"And you told her that?" Hannibal was possibly looking a little pained there, yes.

"I did no such thing!" Hatter said with mock offense. "I think I told her that dancing might be a good fit but I didn't offer to hug her."

"Perhaps your flirting needs some work," Hannibal noted. "Or a more receptive audience."

"I'm sorry, what?" Hatter asked, cupping a hand over his ear like he hadn't heard Hannibal perfectly well. "Did you just say I was flirting with her?"

"You asked her to dance and you weren't?" Sorry, Hatter, you were getting an eye for that.

"I said she should take up dancing not that she should dance with me," Hatter told him, shaking his head. "If I asked her to dance, she wouldn't have refused me."

"Or she might have given you a more expensive ticket," Hannibal pointed out.

"You have absolutely no faith in me," Hatter remarked, shaking his head. "It's such a sad thing! I'm an amazing dancer and irresistible when I want to be."

"I have faith in your tea," Hannibal offered. "I'll simply have to take your word on the dancing until there's an opportunity to judge otherwise."

"Is there ever an opportunity for dancing here?" he wondered. "I haven't seen many avenues for that sort of thing."

"The children have Homecoming and Prom," Hannibal noted. "There have occasionally been parties, but I'm not certain how much dancing happens."

"Homecoming and Prom?" Hatter repeated, trying to remember if he'd ever heard those terms before. "And that's just for the students? Boo."

"Homecoming is for the alumni - former students," Hannibal added, in case that wasn't a word Hatter knew, "as well as the current ones. Prom is a formal dance for the current ones. But if you enjoy dancing, I'm sure you could always rent the community center for a town dance."

That would be rather interesting, actually. Would it need a caterer?

"Not so much interested in dancing as I am parties," he explained, shrugging. "If dancing were to happen, then all the more fun. Irene thinks I should have a wine tasting party since I discovered a rather large cellar under my restaurant."

"I believe I must back her up on that," Hannibal said. "I'd be very curious what sorts of wine this place might have. And it would seem we simply must have more parties."

"Perhaps I'll look into doing that some weekend in the near future," Hatter decided. "I don't really know any adults besides yourself and Irene so it'd be nice to see who my neighbors are."
