Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The nice thing about the fall welcome picnics was that, well, they didn't typically happen in the fall. It was definitely still summer in Fandom, with sunny skies and a light breeze blowing through the front lawn of the school. Folks had gotten up bright and early to make sure there were plenty of tables, chairs, and blue and gold streamers to decorate the picnic area.

And glitter. So much glitter for the new folks to learn to love.

Getting the food out was the finishing touch, and then everything was ready for the new (and not-so-new) arrivals!

[This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

He was totally hiding.

"And of course you're teaching. You were on the roster. Lots of students are signed up for your class on...whatever you're teaching."

"You look more like you're hiding," Karla observed. "And--wait, you don't know what I'm teaching, either? Who does? How did I even get on the roster? Is Fandom just pointing at random people and declaring them teachers now?"

...She could see that, actually.

"You've seen our board of trustees," Anakin said. "It's entirely possible."

"I can't even argue with that," Karla sighed. "So...you have no idea what I'm teaching or how it happened. Neither do I. Do I go see someone in the office about that or something? I'm a Queen, here. I'm generally busy ruling a Territory!"

And trying not to get murdered. Though that was kind of a new hobby she was picking up.

"You could take it up with the moose?" Anakin offered. "I've found that he's the best listener."

Karla was facepalming. "This school," she groaned. "This schoooool. I don't even know sometimes. How do you manage it?"

Karla was going to counter that knowing eyebrow with an awkward cough and a small blush.

"What?" she asked defensively.

Karla covered her face with her hands, embarrassed. "This is so weird," she complained, voice muffled. "I feel like I should be on the other side of the picnic, convincing boys to take off their shirts!"

Not over here, learning she was a teacher and picking out nursery colors!

"Well, you could," Anakin said after a pause. "I'm pretty sure being a teacher wouldn't stop Pam or Cheryl...but they aren't exactly role models."

"I think I've heard of them the few times I've caught radio broadcasts on the island," Karla said with a small grin. "So I shouldn't put their names up for Teacher of the Month recognition?"

Nahhh. She didn't know if she had permission to say anything yet. Besides, Ben's grandson had shown up on the island. What was the point of even trying to outdo that?
