Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The nice thing about the fall welcome picnics was that, well, they didn't typically happen in the fall. It was definitely still summer in Fandom, with sunny skies and a light breeze blowing through the front lawn of the school. Folks had gotten up bright and early to make sure there were plenty of tables, chairs, and blue and gold streamers to decorate the picnic area.

And glitter. So much glitter for the new folks to learn to love.

Getting the food out was the finishing touch, and then everything was ready for the new (and not-so-new) arrivals!

[This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Mara was looking a little bewildered at all of the activity.

Why did everyone have to be so tall?

Well Barry was only 5'7" so he wasn' t that tall.

He did finally look up from his tablet and looked around for his sib.

Finally he just shrugged and yelled "Mara Jade? Are you fucking here or what?"

Because that should be anyone's greeting to Fandom.

He was still six inches taller than her. ~~Star Wars women were wee.~~

"Over here!" she called, raising her hand above her head.

"Right, I'm Barry. I'm your fucking big sibling to make sure you transition to this fucking place smoothly" Barry said walking over and give her a visual check. Looked human. "Did you taken the bus over? Any freaky shit you worried about yet?"

Mara was catching about one word in three, but cursing was universal in tone, regardless of language, so she just memorized the new words to learn later and moved on. "Not yet," she said. "Should there be?"

Beat.

"You're not actually my sibling, right? Because I thought I was an only child."

"Nah. It's not a literal thing," Barry smirked. "Just your assigned guy to help you out around this fucking place. And just to warn you? This place is fucked up. Where are you from?"

"Imperial Center," Mara replied, arching a brow. "Have you heard of it?"

"Nope. Sounds like a fucking strip mall," Barry said shaking his head. "Are you from Earth? Any idea what time you might be coming from?"

"I'm not from Earth," Mara said, smiling slightly.

"All right then this makes it easier since you probably know about aliens and advanced technologies. The island is an interdimensional nexus which has all the fucking things I've mentioned and on top of that magical shit," Barry said pulling out a tablet and offering it to Mara. "This has a map of the island with all landmarks listed and an index of the stores on the island as well. If you ain't got shit for money you can always get a job around here to get you by. If you need clothes there are- I shit you not -trees in the back of the dorm that grow clothing. Also on the tablet are a profile of the teachers. And if you think this island might be crazy? Just wait until you have a class with one of those fucking wackos. Finally on the map there's a warehouse marked on it. You can find me there if you have a problem, need something or just need to talk. This place can be fucking crazy so don't be afraid to reach out if you need someone to talk to about this place."

Mara began scrolling through the names of the teachers. "...there's a Skywalker here? That's a name from home."

The galactic equivalent of Johnson, but yes.

"There were about three of them. One was a student. I believe only Anakin is left. He's been around for a while. Even as a student," Barry said with a nod. "You've heard of them?"

Mara bit her lower lip. "Sort of," she said, "but he's been dead for years. How odd."

"Yeah, well that's the fucking thing around here. People show up from other people's futures and past all the fucking time," Barry explained. "I think one student was a grand kid and the grandfather was barely in his twenties. If that."
