BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

A few days ago Gwen saw New York destroyed and drowned and her friend/roommate/surrogate brother type was presumed dead for a while- got a really amazing obituary for his alter-ego and everything. Today she was waiting for a portal that was going to take her to a school in Maryland. She was actually looking forward to school, just to get back to doing normal things again, but the timing was weird.

She seemed to be the first one here, and the banner meant she was probably in the right seat, so.

Gwen would be the sullen-looking girl sitting under the glittery Fandom High banner and showing too much midriff. And occasionally brushing at the top of her head with her hand because she was convinced the glitter was probably raining down on her.

"Clearly not you," Reno mused, nodding his approval. The little daredevil types were always the most amusing. "Bet we got at least one or two in this batch. There are a few every semester who freak the hell out whenever less than four of the wheels on the bus ain't touchin' the ground."

And for anyone who had ever counted the wheels on a school bus...

Mara had counted, yeah. "How many are supposed to be touching?" she asked. "We don't use such hopelessly ancient tech where I'm from."

"All four," Reno replied, wrinkling his nose a little. "Or so I'm told. I dunno. I come from a world where most land vehicles have three at most. Or, you know, they hover."

Hovering was kind of a new addition, mind. Thanks for that one, Rikku!

"Hovering is key," Mara agreed. "I suppose asking about hyperdrive capability is just a waste of my time?"

"Asking me about it is," Reno agreed with a shrug of his shoulders that nearly approached apologetic. Nearly. If you squinted. "That doesn't mean it's a lost cause, yo. It takes all types on that island, yo. You might be surprised."

"I'm sure I'll be surprised," Mara said with a tiny smile.

"You were surprised enough about the wheels," Reno replied with a grin. "Just wait until you get a load of the rickshaws."

"A little wagon you ride in, on two wheels, that's pulled around by people," Reno replied. "People-powered transportation. Like, you can't be bothered to walk from one side of an island the size of Fandom to the other. Guess it makes some sense if you have luggage or something, I dunno."

In fairness, Reno sometimes had difficulty grasping the notion that someone might not actually be able to cross the island in less than thirty second at a full-out sprint. Speedsters.

"Yeah, well. Where I'm from, you get people ridin' around on the backs of giant birds. You take what you can get," Reno mused, shrugging. "Unless you're planning to leave town, you don't really need more than that, anyway. It's a pretty easy place to navigate, yo."

"I'm pretty good with direction," Mara said vaguely, "but that's good to know."
