Library, Sunday

Had Evan gone to the carnival yet? Noooo way. He'd had a run in with a murder circus once before, and he really didn't trust those things. Did he want to go, now that he had listened to radio and realized that people were actually dying there?

...Yes. Very much. But of course, instead he was in the library working his shift, with a deinonychus curled up on the floor behind the circulation desk and snoozing as a couple of adorable children's books sidled up to cuddle with her.

Awww. It almost made it easier not to worry about all the murder that was going on.

Almost.

Riley had managed to get the book off his leg yesterday but he was still carrying it with him. He showed up early, just to make sure that they were on the right track with the hugging strategy (strange as that sounded) before doing anything else.

"Okay, I could wait for radio to come on and just tell me, but I'm bored," Tamsin announced as she stepped into the library. "Did you nerds find anything?"

Riley was hesitant to speak up because it just sounded so ridiculous but he eventually did.

"It looks like hugging might be a thing." Yep.
fjordicswagger: (tamsin: really?)

"Hugging," Tamsin said flatly.

"That's what I said," Riley said, not surprised at that reaction. "A book wouldn't let go of my leg that proclaimed hugging was great therapy. And that coincided with someone else finding something about hugging dispersing a carnival before."

Still sounded ridiculous.

Yeah, Tamsin was going to stand here and stare at him for a minute.

"Okay," she said finally. "Whatever. On this island, there's bound to be some idiot who wants to try it."

And if they got stabbed and died instead, well, hey, they already had a high body count.

"Just giving you what I know. Haven't found anything else worthwhile," he said, shrugging. "Good luck."

"Thanks," she said dryly, though there was probably a spark of sincerity in there somewhere. "Keep hitting those books."

Rapunzel had actually fallen asleep doing research here, this morning -- she hadn't slept well when she'd finally toddled back to the dorms, and Sunday morning saw her actually doze off, curled up in her hair, for a few minutes.

"Hzzwha, World's Fair!" she contributed when Pascal, who she'd fetched from her room, pinched her nose to wake her up. She softened a little. "Thanks, Pascal. Maybe I need more coffee."

That was a phrase she had never said before, considering how coffee usually made her bounce right off the walls. Oh dear.

"Here you are." Hannibal poured her a cup and handed it to her. He'd actually gone home last night, after the tenth time he'd returned with a book only to find children's books about hugging covering the table instead.

But now he was back, and he came bearing homemade bread and coffee.

"Thank you, Dr. Lecter," Rapunzel murmured blearily with a grateful little smile. "Do we have any leads beyond...hugging, so far?"

That was what she'd overheard, most of yesterday, and as much as Rapunzel did enjoy her hugs, it seemed...well. Simplistic.

"Not that I'm aware of. Although something in the library does seem very insistent upon the hugging." He set down his bag and pulled out the dense bread he'd made and sliced at home. "I'd say you should sleep in a proper bed, but as it's patently too late for that, you should at least have breakfast."

"My hair doesn't make it so bad," Rapunzel offered. "It's like a pillow, kind of!"

And at least the bump on her head was gone -- though that was less rest and wellness-related, and more due to the fact that she'd healed it herself yesterday.

"But...thank you. For breakfast. This is -- this is all really weird? But people keep saying this kind of stuff kind of...happens, sometimes." Maybe she just ought to get used to it.

Her hair was like a lot of things, really.

And yes, Hannibal noticed the bump was gone, but he wasn't going to say anything just yet.

"You're quite welcome. And yes, odd things do happen, although I can't say I've seen this one before. Most of them are fairly short-lived."
