Try Not to Die [Thursday, May 29, 2014]

If you thought Anakin was going to apologize for his behavior last week, you must be very, very new here, because...no.

Not going to happen.

"Today we're going to Bothawui," Anakin told the class, pulling up a holographic projection of the planet. "It's home to an intelligent sentient species called the Bothans--" another holo projection--, "who are known throughout the galaxy for their political abilities and code slicing skills. Bothawui is home to 2.5 billion beings--99 percent of them Bothan, so you will stand out. It has standard gravity, a breathable atmosphere and a temperate climate." He clapped his hands together. "As usual, you have two tasks to complete. I'll see you at the checkpoint."

Well, at least this time you probably won't die?

Bothans are renowned for their intelligence-gathering. You will be handed a series of navigational clues to get you undetected through the busy Bothawui marketplace. If you are caught by a Bothan intelligence officer, you have to start over.

At the end, you must tell one of fifteen identically dressed Bothans, "I prefer caf to blue milk." If you get the right Bothan, he will hand you a suitcase that contained your next clue, but you could be saying a random phrase to unaffiliated Bothans for a long, long time...

The navigational clues? Not a problem for Barry.

Getting caught? Problem.

And then-

"Jesus fucking Christ! I prefer caf to blue milk! C'MON!"

Emma was pretty good at not being noticed, though she somehow managed to give the pass-phrase to the same wrong Bothan three times before she found the right one.

Following navigational clues was actually fairly easy for Nathan. He figured it was his experience with following various landmarks back home. He managed to get to the Bothans easily enough and without being caught.

Now, identifying the right one was a totally different story and that took awhile.

Getting there wasn't too bad. Not getting caught? Ever so easy.

And luckily, Kaylin only needed three tries to find the right Bothan.

The city was odd, that was certain - as were its people. But Edward knew a number of unorthodox ways to navigate even a place such as this. So he made good time simply moving through the masses, quietly.

He wouldn't be able to tell you how he identified the right Bothan at first sight, however - there was simply something odd living in the back of his brain pointing him towards the odd gent.

In sell it, go to Exoticalia Pet Emporium where they will give you five polpians to sell to passersby.

The catch: most Bothans are allergic to polpians.

In Smell It, you travel to the atrium of the Combined Clans Center Building, where you will be pruning the borscii vines, kafvris vines, and short trees that decorate the floors. There's a lot of walking and the Bothan gardeners are notoriously picky about how they want things to look.

Barry decided to sell it.

"Who wants to buy these fucking things?"

He's not a very good salesman

Emma decided to try selling the polpians, it helped that over the years she'd developed a knack for picking out people who'd go for the hard-luck cases, which apparently held true even when the people weren't human.

Nathan went with Smell It for...well, he didn't know. Celia had taught him some gardening so he fell back on that knowledge but everyone was so freaking picky that it still took him awhile.

Kaylin went for Smell It. She was a little haphazard with her shears though which led to lots of help from the gardeners who were quickly terrified that she might just hack everything down without them.

Edward didn't even have to think before picking sell-it.

He had the gift of gab - he'd sold enormous amounts of goods for his father and he could just about talk a cat into taking a swim.

It barely took him five minutes. Odd as the locals were, they were still people, after a fashion.

Anakin and Jessica are waiting in the Merchants Market next to the Combined Clans Center Building to see how you did.

Barry walked over the finish line in a huff.

Granted he'd walk over the finish line in a huff no matter how well he did so it's really it's just Barry being Barry.

"You're fourth today," Anakin told him.

"Should have chosen Smell It," Barry grumbled.

"Have a passion for gardening?" Anakin replied, cocking up an eyebrow.

Emma arrived at the finish line feeling pretty pleased with herself.

"You're second," Anakin told her. "Well done."

Nathan made it to the check in, not feeling too great about the performance but he didn't think he was last, at least.

"You're fifth today," Anakin said.

Kaylin was just the tiniest bit smirky as she arrived. She didn't really mind frightening some people.

"You're third today," Anakin said.

She smiled at him. "I actually enjoy this class."

The people she was terrorizing on various planets probably weren't as happy, but oh well.

"That must have been the easiest to date," Edward said - with only a slight bit of puzzled mixed in with his easy smile, this time.

"For you," Anakin said with a little smile. "You're first today."

Edward grinned more broadly. "Of course I am," he said, bouncing on his feet.

Because that's what they're here for.

After being satisfied that Anakin wasn't likely to kill any students and bury them on an alien planet this week - it was a legitimate concern last week! - Jessica made sure to pay careful attention to how things went on this planet. She was technically a spy, after all. It was kind of cool to see a planet full of them.
