Driver's Ed, Period 2, Thursday

Bond had notified his class to meet him in the Danger Shop, where a driving course with a rather sporty looking car parked nearby awaited them.

"Good morning, class," Bond greeted them, once they'd finished arriving. "And welcome to Driver's Ed, the subject of the class should be obvious from the name. Now, as a few points of order, I will be teaching the class to drive vehicles from this particular time period or earlier, and I'll also be teaching manual as opposed to automatic as it's easier to go from the one to the other."

"Now, we'll start with introductions, name, any experience you have with driving, if the vehicles were you come from differ significantly to those here. Then we'll go over how exactly a car works and some of the basics of how to drive, before those of you who feel up to it try taking a spin."

Bon pointed to a random student. "You first."

"Hi, um, I'm Kira," she said. All the introductions this week were making the process less nerve-wracking, at least. "I don't have any driving experience yet, but I'm familiar with the cars of this time period. I'm just from a big city so there's a lot more public transportation than driving, unless you want a major headache."

"New York. It's kind of hard to justify having a car when the subway gets you everywhere," she said. "I mean, my parents and I have taken car trips before, but my dad's never let me drive." So mean, he was.

Another male for a teacher? Jalian eyed him skeptically. "I am Jalian d'Arsennette. I have no experience driving a karz." Or anything else, really.

Jalian raised an eyebrow at that; it was a surprisingly astute observation. "Yes."

Don't worry; she'd learn all kinds of new ones!

It was definitely a good thing Bond wouldn't be teaching any high-speed bad habits.

Jalian was going to be an awesome student.

"I'm Jeff Moreau, 'Joker' to my fans. Cars where I'm from float a few meters off the ground, so that beauty over there's a little new to me. But I'm the best damn pilot in the galaxy, so you put me in the pilot's -- uh, driver's -- seat of anything, and I'll figure it out in no time. Besides, thanks to Fandom, I've already driven a limousine and a drift car, and on top of that I've had plenty of experience with... slightly less-realistic simulations." AKA video games.

Joker nodded. "The mass effect dampens most of the g-forces, too. Most of the feedback you get is haptic -- faked-up vibrations in the controls."

"I'm Kathy and, like Kira, I grew up in a major city with a decent public transportation system. I'm West Coast, though. L.A. The only experience I have with cars is driving in New Zealand once last summer, because the teachers didn't realize that not everyone grows up piloting spaceships."

She was still a little bitter about that experience, yes.

"So, apart from one terrifying lesson behind the wheel on the wrong side of the road, the only cars I've ever driven were in arcades."
