Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2014, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

Right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, the ceremony for graduation was ready to go. The lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths for everyone to get to the seating area, and even in the fading sunlight, the graduates and their guests could likely see the beautiful job that the school's new gardening company had done getting plots of flowers and garden decorations set up around the stage. It might have been a long, cold winter, but there were no signs left of that tonight.

Of course, the pretty landscaping wasn't keeping the staff off of high alert, but hopefully the guests wouldn't notice as they were welcomed in.

Congratulations, Class of 2014! You made it! Now you just had to get through the ceremony. Maybe it would be quick and only slightly boring?

"My boyfriend is graduating."

The look on her face said she was exepvting eyerolling or something of that sort.

He lifted up his eyebrows. "Ah. Like 'em young, huh?"

Oh, guess she'd roll her own eyes.

And then reach out to give his shoulder a light shove. Which maybe turned into giving it a little squeeze because dammit, she hadn't seen him in a year. Apart from that month recently that she'd spent looking like him.

And that didn't count.

"He's eighteen. Don't be a jerk."

"I suppose that's true." It was. She let go of his shoulder. "Maybe that's why I had such a terrible time when I looked like you for a month."

"You obviously weren't doing it right," he said. "Usually that genderswap thing is shorter."

"We had a couple of months of weird time," she replied, brushing her hair back. "And I wasn't even myself. Or, I was. But if I'd been born a guy called Nathan."

"For a whole month?" he said. Not for the first time he was glad to have left the island. "That's ridiculous even by Fandom standards."

Natalie nodded because yeah. "A month of being a guy my friends resented for not being me and who my... well, our boyfriend broke up with? Yeah, it was too much."

"Or, you could look at like maybe they love me," she suggested dryly. Yeah, they'd sucked. "Anyway. Does my misery at least get me a hug? I think I've earned this one."

Jace gave an oh so put upon sigh. "I suppose."

Look at him, putting his arms out and everything.

"How inviting of you," Natalie snarked as she stepped closer to embrace him. Pretty tightly, actually. "I feel loved."

"I don't just hug anybody, you know," he said, squeezing his arms around her and everything. It was no half-assed hug! "It's nice seeing you again. Being truthful there."

"I know, on both counts." Her life was woefully short on people who liked hugging, for one. "It's nice to see you too. You should text me sometimes, little brother."
