Literature- Wednesday- 2nd period

"Well, this is our last class," Jess began once the bell rang. "And thanks for being great, even when things were totally crazy. Anyway, today's your final and you're going to do a little bit of work for it. It is an essay- sorry. I want you to tell me two thing: what was your favorite book that we read this semester, and which was your least favorite, and why. Be as thorough as you can with the answer, since this is going to count for a big part of your grade. Just do the best you can."

And then she added, "I believe in you!" Totally seriously. She really did believe in you, kids. You just go and own that final.

Jim wrote a fairly long essay on what book he'd like and which he didn't. The one he liked had a little more detail and was more enthusiastic and the dislike portion was pretty scathing. Overall, pretty well done.

He also added in a few sentences about how he'd like the cleaning lady persona of hers the best. It'd made him laugh.

Cosette spent the entire period rambling on and on about what she liked about each of the books, and how she didn't dislike any of them but the one about the whale had been frustrating because she wanted to slap some sense into the protagonist, and meta for To Kill a Mockingbird and The Scarlet Letter had been upsetting (with a tangent about how she'd tried to discuss meta for To Kill a Mockingbird with her father and it had seemed to upset him even more than it had her).

It was a long essay, to the point where she felt a little guilty about the amount of paper by the time she turned it in.

Rilla went on (and on and on and ON) about her love for Emma, and then on again about how much she loathed Moby Dick.

As she turned her essay in, she hoped rather fervently those novels had been in this semester's class...

Jessica wrote a pretty passionate essay about why the themes of justice and acceptance in To Kill a Mockingbird made it her favorite book before writing a very brief paragraph about how her least favorite book wasn't a book at all. It was that time Jess was a cleaning lady and didn't contribute to Jessica learning much.
