Self-Expression- Monday- 4th period

Today the Danger Shop looked a lot like a music classroom. Because today it was a music classroom.

"I'm giving you guys a rest from talking about anything today," Kitty greeted them. "In case you haven't guessed, we're going to play with music. Like art or hitting things or anything else, I don't think you necessarily need to be good at it, but there's something kind of freeing in making a noise. Bonus if it's pretty. So you can go around and try out some of the instruments, or if you want to sit at a table and try your hand at writing lyrics, that'll work, too."

Jim was not musically gifted but that wasn't going to stop him from picking up a guitar and giving it a few strums. Hey, maybe he'd find that he was a prodigy or something!

(He wasn't.)

Karina claimed a piano as soon as Kitty let them get to it. Then she tugged out her latest composition and settled in to work on it, playing bits and pieces of it intermittently as she crossed things out, then scribbled new notes down.

Raven wandered through the room a bit, then ended up with a concertina.

No, she didn't know how to play a concertina. But it couldn't be that hard, right?

Er.

Celia was not at all musically gifted -- though she wished she was -- but that was easily managed enough. A drum set was enticing, because with magic she could both tap out a rhythm without ever picking up a stick, and she could muffle her own noise a bit.

Sadly, she could not magically make herself actually play well. But it was fun trying all the same.

Bay poked at a keyboard. She wasn't musically talented, but she could pick out Chopsticks. Which she was doing. Repeatedly.

Cosette went straight for the piano, since that was what she was familiar with. It was too bad she didn't have any sheet music with her, since she'd love to spend some time practicing, but she had a few pieces memorized.

She sat down and began to play and sing along with an aria from act 3 of Euryanthe.

"Schirmende Engel Schar,
Wachend allimmerdar,
In tiefster Mächte Schoss
Über der Menschen Los,
Blicke herab!
Schirmende Engelschar, blicke herab!
Schäumend in Kampfes Wut,
Qualmend in Dampf und Glut
Dringet die Feindin ein!
O wo wird Hilfe sein
In dieser Not?
Wie sie dichter ihn umzingelt,
Sich nach seinem Herzen ringelt!
Weh! er fällt! - Nein! mein Held
Ringt sich auf und hochgeschwungen
Blitzt sein Schwert! Es ist gelungen!
Heil! der Sieg ist ihm gegeben!
Seele, fühle ganz dein Glück!
O was ist mein Leben
Gegen diesen Augenblick!
"

Granted, she had to pitch it down a key or two because while she did have a good voice she was in no way an operatic soprano. She also didn't actually have a clue what it meant, since she didn't speak German, so while it sounded nice enough it sounded like a song sung by (a very young) someone who didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics.
