Library, Sunday

Elsa had arrived to the library bright and early, hoping that the doors would be open already. And they were, sort of, though the extremely pale boy who had opened them a minute before her arrival seemed... anxious, in a way that she knew all too well. He'd asked her if she thought there were going to be many people about, and had only grown more anxious when her answer was an explanation about how there might be a few stopping by to research what was going on around the island lately, yes.

She'd taken pity on him, explaining that her family had an extensive library back home and she knew her way around one, inside-out, and if he needed to be somewhere away from people - his anxious muttering about it being not safe for him to be here seemed to confirm that much - then she would be perfectly happy to set things up for the researchers today.

There was a moment of silence before the usual Sunday boy nodded almost desperately, and then scurried off looking for someone named 'Sholeh.'

Elsa blinked after him for a moment, gave her shoulders a small shrug, and then set to work sorting out more books from the stacks that she thought might have anything to do with people magically becoming other people.

... Now, if only she knew how to work the coffee machine.

"So." Dinah wandered in a bit late in the day, with a distinctly thoughtful look on her face. "I understand people are investigating some of the Island's weirdness here. Any progress?"

Dinah's shoulders miiight have relaxed a little bit at that news. "That's a shame," she said, looking thoughtful. "Is there anything I can do? That isn't research. Really, not my thing." She smiled slightly. "I'm Dinah, by the way."

That got a somewhat more genuine smile out of Dinah. Mostly for memories of fellow students who'd been bewildered by technology back in the day.

"No problem. Point me to it, I can probably get it to make cocoa too, if it's not too old."

"Sure." Dinah grinned a little more, and went over to check the coffee maker. Yup, it looked like you could, possibly, put a cocoa cup in there to make that too. Coffee first, though. "One of my favorites, cocoa. With little marshmallows. I'll have to check around here to see if there are any. So, how long have you been in Fandom?"

"So, anything?" Joker asked. "Those books have any spells that will just tell us the answer?"

"Well, it's gotta be somebody's specialty," Joker replied. "And sooner or later they might even actually show up. In the meantime.... Oh, crap. Did I actually tell you about the weather machine, yet? Please tell me I remembered to tell people about the weather machine."

"Well, it's..." Joker frowned. "To be honest, I don't actually have any idea. I'm assuming it's a machine that makes weather, somehow, which isn't something that should actually work but, hey, Fandom." He shrugged. "The point is, two ladies came in on Friday and said they broke it and then lost it, and that somehow caused all of this mess. So... look for something about that in the books?" Joker gave her a look that was pained, apologetic, and thoroughly confused all at once. "I think one of the ladies might have been the sheriff," he added. "Maybe they were both the sheriff?"

"Because they are horrible, horrible people and they suck," Joker answered.

"...Actually, they did tell people about it, and also they only just now realized it might have been related, and also also they locked it in a safe and only realized it was missing when they went to check on it. Soooo... probably not as deserving of yelling-at as you're thinking. Still pretty bad, though."

He sighed. "And after all the boatloads of nothing I came up with all week, I've now been looking up info on this doohickey, and still came up with nothing. Sometimes, I really hate this place."

Riley hadn't been able to make it to the library during the week but he was there now, laptop open and fingers tapping away.

Of course, he didn't really know what he was looking for but he felt the need to do something.

Hannibal showed up again today to try and see if there was anything useful to be found. He nodded politely at the apparent student librarian today and started looking for books.

He brought his own coffee.

Jaina was finally starting to feel acclimated to her new-ish surroundings - she had warm non-toga clothes and felt like she knew her way around all the different parts of the island - but coming into the library felt more like going home than being in her Fandom. She wandered through the shelves for a while before coming back to one of the tables with a stack of books. Some of them might have been helpful in their current strange situation, but some just looked like they'd be fun to read.

So, how exactly did one a) find a broken weather machine that vanished from a locked safe, or b) figure out how it was doing what it was doing and stop it? Joker went with c) examine any and all books on the history and nature of Fandom to see what they said about a weather machine.

What was even more disappointing than how little the books said about weather machines was how few of those books there were. Joker had to fight the urge to just bang his forehead against the desk in frustration. That would be a bad idea.
