"Right," Josh began, sipping from his coffee. "This week the right wing has decided to clutch their pearls and wail over the dignity of the Presidency and how that has been lost because President Obama went onto a web comedy to promote his health care initiative. In case you haven't seen it--" he turned on the video.

"Bill O'Reilly went so far as to say: 'All I can tell you is Abe Lincoln wouldn't have done it.' Putting aside the fact that television, webisodes and electricity hadn't really become things when Abe Lincoln was president and that Bill O'Reilly is a pompous jackass...do you think he had a point? Do Presidents appearing on talk shows--Nixon did 'Laugh In', Clinton went on Arsenio Hall and played the saxophone, Obama's been on pretty much every late night show that currently exists--lessen the dignity of the office? Does the office need dignity?"

I wouldn't let Zach near Michelle either.

Is the dignity of the office paramount? If so, explain two terms of George W. Bush.

"Well, isn't part of the job of the president to connect with the people, and persuade them, and communicate policies and ideas in a way that resonates with them?" Joker asked. "Nobody listens to a stuffed shirt anymore. I mean, this isn't that far removed from the Lincoln-Douglas debates, is it?"

Josh nodded. "That's what I was thinking. And he's aiming for a different age demographic than the same eight old people who are up for the Sunday morning shows."

"You know, I get that you're being hyperbolic, there -- and that kind of invalidates my next point -- but... if someone's only got eight old people watching their show, why do they have a show?"

"Tradition, mostly," Josh said. "These shows have been on the air so long that the networks have absolutely nothing else to replace them. Plus people aren't exactly chomping at the bit for the Sunday morning timeslot."

"I think the office does need dignity, but you don't lose it by doing something interesting to promote one of your initiatives," Jessica said. "Put him on something like Jackass and I'd have to reconsider."

Josh nodded again. "Or a Real Housewives, or Maury or something."

Can you tell Josh didn't watch a lot of TV?
