Self-Expression- Monday- 4th period

Class was in the Danger Shop today, which was done up to look like a small gym. Kitty had figured that there would be more than enough room, plus anyone who had to deal with small children could take them off to the side if there were any problems.

With her was Lexi, who looked really pretty excited about being in class. "Hey, everyone," Kitty said. "Once again the usual plan got thrown out because of Fandom, but that's okay. For anyone new in here, I'm Kitty and this is Lexi, and today we're going to work on self-expression through a dance party. Yes, you have to. Don't be shy, we're here to have fun today."

And then she hit play on the totally safe, kid-friendly pop music and you all were just going to have to deal with it.

"I'm not but thank you for being nice," he said, shaking his head. "Maybe I'll grow into...myself."

That made no sense. Well, maybe a little sense.

"Oh, come on now. It's my opinion, so it's as true as I say it is," Celia argued lightly. "You don't need to grow into anything. I think you're -- you're nice as is."

Eloquent.

"Well. Thank you," he said, resisting the urge to argue that. "We'll see how you feel if the whole dancing thing ever happens and I step on your feet and cause pain."

"We'll see if that even happens," Celia replied, raising a brow at him. "The foot-stepping, I mean. I've been warned for it now so I feel quite well prepared to protect my toes. Maybe I'll invest in armor-plated shoes."

"Hey, you have to get me to dance before any foot stepping happens," Will pointed out. "And I'm really not sure that'll happen."

Because he thought himself uncoordinated in certain situations.

"Fair point," Celia mused. "My toes will remain safe if you continue to refuse to dance. Though I admit I'll take it as a slight if I ask you and you say no."

She was mostly teasing. There was very little chance of her ever asking anyone to dance.

"If you asked, I probably wouldn't say no," Will admitted, cheeks pinking up. Again.

Celia smiled, finding blushing much more charming in others than in herself. "I'll keep that in mind for the next dance," she replied. "If I don't hide in my dorm room during it, that is."

"I probably wouldn't blame you, if you did that," he said, chuckling. "I thought about doing that for the last dance but I dunno."

He shrugged. "I would have gotten bored, I think. I'll look for you at the next dance."

[identity profile] pasunereveuse.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what brought me out," Celia admitted. "Boredom, mostly. And then due to further boredom, I got carried away modifying my dress and I felt like an idiot. It was...short."

It wasn't that short. It was short for like, the 1950s.

"Made my very reluctant dancing easier, though."

"I'm really sorry I missed your dress," Will said with a little smile. "I bet you looked beautiful."

Well, he thought she was pretty already and dresses just brought that out more in girls, he'd learned.

"Next time," he said, nodding.

"I don't know about that," Celia said, feeling her cheeks go hot again. "It was very...pink. For Valentine's Day." Thanks for that insight, Celia. "I just modified something I already own. Benefit of being magical."

She slanted a look at him. "Did you wear a suit?" The few boys in suits that she'd seen had been very sharp, she'd thought. Much less stuffy than what a formal event might call for back home.

"I wore a suit, yeah," he said, nodding. "Well, maybe the suit wore me. It was a suit from...my dad and it didn't fit all that well but I managed to get my tie tied and didn't trip over the pants so."

Success.

"Were you worried about tripping over your pants?" Celia started to wonder, but she was interrupted by a little voice.

"You're not dancing!" Margaret accused, bouncing over to them. She eyed Will. "Hello."

[identity profile] livebytherules.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm trying?" Will asked, wincing. "I'm not a great dancer. Hello."

He figured (hoped) this was Celia's kid since he didn't know why any other child might wander over to him and start talking unless he'd been talking to someone familiar.

Re: Dance party!

[identity profile] bornachallenger.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Margaret, this is Will, Will, this is my...daughter, Margaret." She paused, narrowing her eyes. "Margaret, Will isn't your father, right?"

"No, Daddy is," Margaret assured her, still dancing. "You're all red."

"I'm sure I am," Celia said, glancing at Will. "Sorry. She won't give me a real answer so I thought it wouldn't hurt to check what she says against any male friends of mine we might encounter."

Re: Dance party!

[identity profile] livebytherules.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Will laughed a little nervously and rubbed the back of his neck. He hadn't expected her to ask that question and he'd gotten a little nervous that the answer might be yes.

Nervous only because he had no idea how he'd deal with any sort of child, alternate universe or not.

"It's okay," he said, waving that away. "Better to check then not check and realize that the father of your...child was here all along."

So weird to say.

"I'm still not convinced she's mine," Celia said quietly as Margaret reached for one of her hands to swing it. "She just...looks like me. And is magical. And calls me Mama. I suppose that's all very compelling evidence, isn't it?"

Damn it.

"Unless she's a really good actress," Will said, glancing down at the little girl. "She does look like you though. And, from what I've seen, it's really hard to fake the kind of attachment she seems to have."

Re: Dance party!

[identity profile] pasunereveuse.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe. Bowens are amazing liars," Celia said thoughtfully, letting the child swing her arm. "But I think you're right. It's frustrating not knowing who her father is, though. And apparently I look different in her world, too." She glanced over at him. "I envy you being skipped for this so much."

Re: Dance party!

[identity profile] livebytherules.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think being skipped for this one just means no one's gonna wanna be with me in the future," he said, shrugging. "So no possibility for kids."

And from what he knew about his future, he could see that being the case.

Re: Dance party!

[identity profile] pasunereveuse.livejournal.com 2014-02-18 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Celia frowned at that, ignoring that her arm was all but being dislocated from her shoulder thanks to Margaret's swinging. "I don't think that's true," she said softly, shaking her head. "I'm fairly sure these aren't all meant to be...what really happens. At least, from what I've observed -- some of the children seem to be from very odd pairings that wouldn't...normally happen organically."

And more importantly, she doubted that no one would want to be with Will in the future. They had just established how handsome his face was, damn it.

"I dunno. Maybe," he said, shrugging. He didn't know a lot about being an Initiate but he really wondered how he could balance that with being a normal guy. "So, maybe I got lucky because I had an evil twin last week and the island was feeling merciful?"

That was a little bit of a better excuse, right?

Re: Dance party!

[identity profile] pasunereveuse.livejournal.com 2014-02-18 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"And I was skipped and this is my retribution for not having...Delia Bowen shove me under a bed, I suppose," Celia sighed. "I'm going to sleep for the rest of the week. As soon as she leaves."

Because she would leave. She had to leave. Celia wasn't just going to have a child, now.

"That sounds like a good plan," Will said, snickering. "And you're always welcome to come by room for a little break."

After the little girl left, of course.
