Deep Thoughts Club [Tuesday after classes]

Anakin walked into Professor Logan's classroom with a surly look on his face.

He reached for his quote book and scrawled the first one he found onto the board.

He stared at what he had written.

Huh.

He shrugged, reached for a Twinkie, and waited for the rest of the ~~emo brooders~~ deep thinkers to show up.

Anakin reached for a piece of paper.

Sorry I was such an ass, he scrawled and passed over to her.

"You seem happy," he said. "What's going on?"

Rory smiled, and quickly wrote a reply.

It really was taken out of context. I meant it in like, an objective, friendly way, and Jaye sort of forgot to add that part. Sorry.

"Um, found out what sex the baby's going to be," she said aloud, beaming. "I'm going to have a brother."

So you think I'm cuter, right?

"That's great!" he said, grinning. "Congratulations. Any ideas for names?"

Of course!

"My mom wants Folger Maxwell. Or Paul Anka," Rory frowned. "I'm leaning towards William. It was Luke's dad's name. And I get to name it, anyway."

"I like William," Anakin said. "And I also like the name Luke." He shrugged. "But I know beings named Mace and Bail, so I might not be exactly the right person to ask about this sort of thing."

"I like William, too. And we could call him something cute, as a nickname. And I'll get to do all the big sister stuff I don't do with Gigi because I never see my dad," she grinned.

"Make sure the nickname's not a girl's name," Anakin said quickly. "It, um, leads to badness."

He nudged her shoulder with his. "And I'm glad you'll get to do the big sister stuff. What's big sister stuff?" He looked embarrassed. "I was an only child, then at the Temple. I don't really know how families are supposed to work."

"No, like...Billy's good. But kind of generic," she mused.

"Um, like reading to him, and teaching him important stuff," Rory said, looking up at him. "I'll be almost eighteen years older, so it's not like we'll bicker a whole lot. But I'll do stuff with him, and babysit him, and play with him. That sort of thing."

"Sounds like fun," Anakin said, biting back a "sorry I'll miss seeing it."

"So are your mom and Luke really excited?"

"My mom definitely is. Luke made her stop and buy a baseball glove when he found out. Which is too cute," Rory giggled.

"That's very cute. I'm guessing non-gremlin baseball?" he teased.

"Probably," Rory said seriously. "He'll be a bit small for it, too, considering the glove is probably just about baby-sized."

"You'll keep him away from the gremlins if they came back, anyway." Anakin gave her a evil smile. "Through the use of folder helmets, if necessary, I'll bet."

"I could make an itty bitty folder helmet!" Rory said as the thought struck her. "Out of like, an index card."

"I demand pictures if you do this," Anakin said.

Rory looked up at him. "Will that be possible?" she asked quietly.

"I don't see why not," Anakin answered. "I can write to Obi-Wan from here."

"Yeah, but you have the technology to do that. I won't exactly be able to email you," Rory pointed out.

"I'll see what I can do about that before I leave," Anakin said quietly. "Maybe I can convince your laptop to help me out."

"Ooh," Rory said thoughtfully.

She sighed. "I know we're supposed to be thinking deep thoughts, but I'd rather not be depressed. It's a good day."

She bit her lip as she remembered something. "Um. By the way, have you looked at the cast list for the play?"

"No," Anakin said. "Why?"

He had a bad feeling about what her answer was going to be.

"Um. You've sort of been cast."

Rory looked very apologetic.

"I've been what?"

"You're, um, in the play," Rory said quietly, wincing.

Anakin closed his eyes. "You're messing with me, right?"
