Library, Wednesday

Sholeh loved the beginnings of semesters. Everything was always bright and filled with possibilities. Sure, she still had the occasional nightmare of being killed less than a month ago (as you do), but she was mostly able to ignore those and continue on being determinedly cheerful.

Because it was a new semester, dammit, and new semesters made her happy.

They also made for very little work to do in the library, as most people had returned their books from last semester and hadn't started taking out books for this one. But Sholeh was good at finding stuff for her to do. Like, say, dusting the books on the shelves. Individually.

One page at a time.

Just holler if you needed her! She'd probably hear you!

Celia had a free day today, and knew exactly where she wanted to spend it. She almost couldn't believe that she hadn't yet made it to the library -- though honestly, her stack of books to be read at the foot of her bed was already a bit of a monstrosity.

When she wandered in, mid-morning, the sheer number of books nearly took her breath away. "Hello?" she called out, trying not to be too loud. It was still a library, after all, even if she was in shock.

Luckily for Celia, Sholeh had just finished a chapter when Celia called. She recognized that 'I'm looking for someone but trying to be respectful' timbre and popped her head out from the shelves.

"Hello?" she called back. And then, spotting an unfamiliar face, "Oh! I'll be right there, sorry!"

"Take your time," Celia said, looking around at the stacks and stacks and stacks of books. "I've plenty to keep myself busy here, don't worry."

One could live a thousand years and still only read everything here once.

Unless they were Liara!

Shaking out her bustle and crinoline from where they'd gotten flattened by her sitting on the floor ~~reading~~ working diligently, Sholeh hurried up to where the new student was standing--and tried not to grin. She recognized that expression: rapture and wonder at all the books.

"I know, right?" she said softly. "It doesn't get less amazing."

"I've never even seen this many books in one place," Celia admitted, actually looking over and smiling at the other girl. Her grin only widened when she saw how Sholeh was dressed -- another one! "I hope I didn't disturb you. I've been here since Saturday and I only just now found the library. I could kick myself for not being in here sooner."

[ugh sorry I had a bad case of the pass-outs after work last night.]

"It's only Wednesday," Sholeh reassured her with a smile. "And Fandom takes some getting used to all on it's own. The important thing is that you made it!"

Because this really was the heart of the school and Sholeh didn't care how manu Danger Shop classes tried to say otherwise.

"Can I give you a tour? I promise, it only gets better."

[Nooooo worries, promise!]

"I think I should cry if you didn't," Celia said lightly. "Have you been attending here long?" She envied Sholeh's familiarity, just a bit, though she knew her own understanding of the school would improve with time.

"I arrived two summers ago," Sholeh said. "Sometimes, it feels like forever and other times, I'm still taken by surprise by things here. I'm told that is feeling never goes away, though. Fandom doesn't like being taken for granted, I guess."

She was about to start the tour when she realized she'd forgotten something very important. "Oh, I'm Sholeh, by the way. Nice to meet you!"

[Sorry! It's been a terrible past few days.]

"Celia," she said with a bright smile. "It's a pleasure."

She tilted her head, though, going back over what Sholeh had said. "The island doesn't like being taken for granted?" she asked hesitantly. "You mean it gets worse?"

[no worries! I don't even have a good excuse for the lateness of this, haha.]

Sholeh bit her lip and looked a little abashed. "Umm, how much did your big sibling tell you?" she asked. "Sometimes the island can just give weird weather, like raining fudge. Other days, well...you can wake up as a boy, I'm not even joking."

Mumble that a bit more, Sholeh.

"A BOY?"

Celia hadn't meant to shout in a library, truly. But forgive her for her reaction. She was preoccupied now with wrapping her arms around her torso defensively, as though someone might sweep in and steal away her corset and skirts and everything underneath them this very instant.

If there was ever just cause for yelling in a library, finding out that you might wake up a boy was it. In spades.

"You might be one of the lucky ones it skips?" Sholeh suggested, though she sounded dubious about that. "There are usually a few."

He loooooves conversations!

Mmm...nap sounds good.
