Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the ~~moddable~~ warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Neat! Oo, and Hiram McDaniels - the five-headed dragon, back home? He's running for mayor now! I got you a campaign poster."

"A five-headed dragon mayor." Raven shook her head. "Sometimes, Cecil, I think you come from the best world of all."

This was because she didn't know about the librarians.

"Well, I like it. But it's home, you know? Anyway, he might not win. The faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home is running against him, and she's got a pretty strong platform, too." He shrugged. He wasn't even old enough to vote anymore, so he'd just take whoever they got.

"You should come visit some time!" He'd keep the librarians away.

"There's a faceless old woman who secretly lives in my home?" Raven said, then shook her head. She should know better than to ask about such things in Nightvale, shouldn't she. "I'd like to come visit sometime. Maybe this summer?"

"I'm not sure; I mean, I thought everybody had one! But out here, nobody does. Or nobody knows about her. So maybe not?" He shrugged and let it go.

"Summer would be great!" Cecil grinned. "Well, for a visit. Right now, Spring would be great."

"It's actually warmer here than it is in New York, you know," Raven said. "Perhaps we should do Nightvale in spring and New York in the summer."

"That would be fun, too." Cecil was easy that way. "Do you get bothered by the heat?" Since cold obviously wasn't a problem.

"Not really. Though I don't know if I've ever been anywhere really hot. I must admit, though," she leaned in conspiratorily. "I'm even less inclined to actually wear clothes when it's warm out."

Cecil grinned back. "I wouldn't want to, either! Well, except for sunburn. Hey, do you not get sunburnt, either? I think I'm jealous," he teased.

"Not really," Raven said. "I don't even tan very much, not from sitting in the sun, anyway. I used to try to pretend, but I always got the color too orange."

Cecil rolled his eyes. "Tan is boring, anyway. ... Well, except for on ♥Carlos♥, but that's more a Carlos thing than a general thing. Other colors are much more exciting!"

"You are too sweet," Raven said. "I look forward to getting to meet the magical Carlos, someday."

"You will if you come visit!" Cecil promised. "Though," it occurred to him, "he can get a little nosy, on account of being a scientist. But if he gets annoying, I can distract him for you." He grinned. That was a win/win situation, really!

"Well, if he's a scientist used to faceless old women who secretly live in people's houses and five headed dragons facing off against each other for mayor, then he can't be too interested in just one girl, right?"

Raven Darkholme, eternal optimist. (Well, maybe not eternal.)

"Well, he's not from Night Vale," Cecil explained. "He came to study us and just sort of stuck around. He's interested in everything," he said with an eyeroll. "He's usually pretty good about personal space and all, but he can get a bit focused sometimes."

"My brother gets a little like that, sometimes," Raven said. "But that's more of a flirting kind of thing than just a scientific curiosity kind of thing."

Because, really, Charles? Did you have to pick out a "mutation" feature in every girl in school?

"Well, Carlos had better only be flirting with me!" Cecil declared, narrowing his eyes in playful menace. "No stealing my boyfriend with your scientific interestingness!"

"I wouldn't dare! You could say all sorts of terrible things about me on the radio."

"I could," Cecil answered cheerfully. "But then you could get a job there and say awful things about me, and we'd probably give all the squirrels heart attacks."

"Or I could disguise myself and steal one of your shifts," Raven said. "But only if you were really nasty."

"I'd never do anything mean enough to make you steal my radio time!" Cecil vowed. Although now his mind was running to all the possible potential uses of having a friend that could be another him, and...well, never mind. "But if you ever really want to do it, you could sneak in with me, I bet," he offered.

"It might be fun to try sometime," Raven said. "I've ever imagined having my own voice on the radio."

"Oh, you should! It's so amazing." Cecil was possibly biased. "I know radio's not as fashionable as it was, at least in my time, but there's just something wonderful about creeping into people's homes and cars and ears, being someone that connects them to their home and neighbors."

And now he was possibly homesick again.

"It sounds so poetic when you describe it," Raven said. "You're very good with words."

"You think so?" Cecil grinned. "Thanks! I really love radio. Though I'll love it a little more when my voice changes again." He rolled his eyes.
