Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There was the bonfire for everyone who thought Maryland in January was a little too cool for their taste, as well as the moddable warm food and drinks, and chairs and tables in the school colors of blue and gold. Some tables were also set a little further away from the crowds.

Because there were always people who preferred the fringes.

[OCD up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Celia wasn't sure what over half the food available was, but she didn't want to seem like a glutton in front of people she'd only just met. She helped herself to a plate of fruit, which was generally exotic enough for her anyway. (She wasn't sure what the bits that weren't grapes or oranges were, honestly. Even those had been counted as treats on the rare occasions Hector had shared them with her.)

She found a spot on top of a picnic table to perch, where she could easily watch the ongoing spectacle of new students. At least she didn't think she stuck out that much.

In the century-old clothing, it was hard for her not to stick out just a bit. Hannibal nodded at her as he passed by. "Hello. You must be one of the new students."

And here Celia had been so pleased at getting a new dress for the occasion! Just her luck to end up a century out of style.

"Is it so very obvious?" she asked with a rueful little smile. "I'm as new as they come, I think. Do you teach here?"

At least her dress was neater and more flattering than what a lot of teenagers wore these days; Hannibal approved.

"Not so obvious, except it's a very small school; you'll soon learn everybody here, and new faces stand out. And yes, I do. Doctor Hannibal Lecter," he introduced himself with a small bow.

"Celia Bowen. It's a pleasure to meet you, Dr. Lecter," Celia said, inclining her head with a small smile. "Have you taught here long, then?"

Long enough at least to know the new from the old, which was quite a bit better than Celia was doing.

"Since the summer," Hannibal answered. "I've found it to be quite interesting. I don't remember seeing your name on my rolls, but if you tell me what classes you'll be taking, perhaps I can point out your teachers to you," he offered.
