Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with ~~moddable~~ warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay (if snowy) for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Siblings?" Elsa's face fell a little once she realized she was going to have to contend with more than just a roommate around here. The expression only lasted a moment before she steeled herself and tried to shake it off, though. This was the situation she'd stepped into in order to get some distance from Anna... she'd have to adjust to it. Going back to Arendelle right now was not an option.

Being tall had its advantages during situations like these since Isaac could tower over most people to read their name tags easily. "Elsa?"

"That would be me," Elsa replied, glancing up as she heard her name. "And you're going to be my... brother, here?"

She seemed a little perplexed about that, still.

"Yeah. In the sense that I'm supposed to guide you through Fandom life, not in the sense that I'm going to pull your hair and annoy you." 'Cause that's what Isaac's brother had done. "I'm Isaac."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Isaac," Elsa replied, dipping a little in a slight curtsy. "Is this the sort of place that needs a lot of guidance? I've never actually been to a boarding school before."

Really, she didn't get out much at all.

Whoa, a curtsy, that was a new one. He responded with an awkward nod because he didn't know if he should curtsy back or nod or what.

"Guidance, no. Disclaimers, yes," he said. "This is an odd little island and it can be kind of intimidating at first if you're not used to the strange and unusual."

If he had curtsied back, Elsa probably would have had a difficult time not laughing.

"Unusual?" Well, that wasn't foreboding at all. "Unusual because this place is full of teenagers from so many different backgrounds, right?"

Maybe? Please?

"Well, there is that," he said. Because it was true. "But I'm talking unusual as in weird occurrences. Like a couple weeks ago it rained chocolate coins."

"... No." Elsa blinked at Isaac in disbelief. As much as she liked chocolate, she was pretty certain her sibling was just messing with her head, now. "No, you must be joking. Chocolate?"

"I'm completely serious. And that's just the start," he said. "How do you feel about supernatural creatures?"

That took a moment's consideration, but at least Elsa was looking at least a little bit more thoughtful.

Supernatural creatures, she could wrap her head around.

"You mean like trolls?"

She could cope with trolls.

"Um, maybe?" Because there could have been one of those around, sure. "I mean like vampires and werewolves and...I guess aliens aren't a supernatural creature but we've got those too."

"Aliens?" That was right up there with the boy telling her that people found technology on Mars this morning. "I've heard of vampires and werewolves, but I've never met any. I suppose... so long as they don't mean harm..."

They couldn't be any worse than she was, after all.

"None of us do." Most of the time. "I think everybody is just trying to survive high school and graduate with all of our limbs in tact."

"Us?" Elsa gave Isaac a curious look at that, and then, after chewing her lip for a moment, she nodded a little. "I mean, I can see how keeping all of one's limbs would be priority. Is losing them something that people actually have to worry about around here?"

Because that would be bad.

"Um. I don't think so?" he asked. "I mean, we've been invaded before but everybody survive it with limbs in tact."

How comforting.

"But that doesn't happen a lot. Most of the time it's pretty quiet."

Elsa wasn't feeling particularly comforted yet, no. She frowned, wringing her hands in front of her chest.

"I think I'd much prefer the quiet. How often is 'not a lot,' exactly?"

"Well I've been here since September and it's only happened once." This was comforting, be comforted. "You don't have to worry, if you have trouble you can just come to me. I wouldn't let anything happen to you."

"You'll protect me from limb-threatening danger?" How quickly that concerned frown shifted to a faintly amused smile. "You're a fighter, then, are you?"

No offense, Isaac, but you didn't look like much of one.

"Well I'm a werewolf," Isaac said, deciding to just be up front about it. "So I've been in my fair share of fights, but 'fighter' really isn't the term I'd use. I don't really have any training."

Well, that neatly explained the 'us,' at least. Elsa nodded thoughtfully. She was a girl who shot ice from her hands. Being told that her new sibling occasionally moonlighted as a wolf wasn't terribly jarring.

"Well... then I appreciate the offer," she decided, "and I'll keep it in mind. The most trouble I'm used to seeing comes in the form of math questions out of a textbook. I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to react to actual danger."

She suspected it wouldn't end well for someone, though.

"You get used to it," he said with a shrug. "It's best to take all the weird stuff calmly. Freaking out just makes things worse. And at least here most of the weird stuff is either awesome like chocolate rain or mildly annoying."

Elsa could live with more weirdness like the chocolate coins. Could it just be that sort of weird all of the time?

Please?

"I'm pretty good at keeping calm, at least," she replied. "I should be able to deal with 'annoying.' And I'm always okay with chocolate."

She had a sweet tooth. It was one of the few things the princesses of Arendelle had in common.

"See? It won't be all that bad," he said. "You'll get used to it, trust me."

"I guess I'm going to have to," Elsa agreed. "Thank you, Isaac. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you if I get too lost."

That shouldn't take too long.
