All told, it had been a fairly good Christmas, if bittersweet. Sholeh had gone out of her way to make certain that Evan had something familiar and that he didn't spend it alone, and even if it wasn't quite like the Christmases he remembered, it had been spent cozily curled up in good company.

And New Year's? Well, that had never been quite so big a deal while he was growing up, so he was mostly just gearing himself up for writing a different number down on anything that needed him to mark the date. Well, and re-shelving any books that were returned so far over the break. And if most of those books happened to have been borrowed by him...

Well. Passing the time was important, right?

Sholeh gave that arm a tug, wanting the rest of him to be near her, too. "I dunno. If he spends all his time slacking off thinking about her, I think she'd consider herself pretty lucky, too."

Well, now the rest of him had to catch up to his arm. Evan gave her a little grin and then held up one finger on the arm that was currently still on his side of the bookshelf. A sort of 'be right there, please hold.'

A few moments later, he was wrapping that one around her waist and smiling at her from her own little corner of the stacks.

"Would she?"

"I'd think she would, yeah," Sholeh said, smiling up into his eyes. "I think she would wonder how she got that lucky at all."

"I think it's a sign of how great she is," Evan decided, smiling right back down at her. "I mean, if she's on his mind so often, and all..."

"I almost feel like they ought to get together or something," Sholeh mused. "I mean, since they spend so much time thinking about one another."

=I am going to gag.=

La la la, Sholeh was ignoring you, Zeela.

"They'd be such a cute couple!"

Tooth-rottingly sweet, even.

So, so tooth-rottingly sweet.

"I bet they'd hold hands a lot," Sholeh said. "And maybe kiss sometimes."

*Not that we're making any suggestions or anything.*

La la la, Sholeh was ignoring you, too, Zhahar.

"Maybe curl up together and read to one another," Evan suggested. "Since they both work in the library, they'd probably really like that."

"I bet that's how they spend cold and rainy days together," Sholeh said with a wistful smile. "Cuddled up with warm drinks and a fluffy blanket, taking turns reading aloud."

"Maybe with a sulky dog at their feet," chuckled Evan. "Because you know that Sunday aide is just the sort of person who won't let his dog go prancing through the mud on a rainy day, too."

Such cruelty.

Sholeh could only sigh and shake her head regretfully. "It all goes back to laziness," she said. "I bet he doesn't want to slog through the mud after his happy puppy and then bring him home for a bath."

Woe.

"Imagine all of the reading time he'd lose! Or the cuddling time!"

That was a very dire concern!

"He'll just have to make it up to his puppy later," Sholeh decided. "Because cuddling time is very important. At least, that's what the Wednesday aide thinks."

"And that," Evan decided, "is why they're so perfect together. And why he's the luckiest aide in the library."

"Second-luckiest," Sholeh countered. "After Wednesday's."

This was an argument she'd be content to have for the rest of the day. Even if her sisters would really rather they didn't.
