"Good morning, Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Gilmore. Your assignment is a simple one. In class today, please write fifty words on why impersonation is wrong, or which circumstances might find it acceptable. Because we're doing this today, you have until tomorrow to turn in your assignment on campus couples. Questions?"

Chloe gets a little caught on the idea of John remaining in hat form before she can think about the joy another Mountie would bring to the school. "Who knows? I bet our current Mountie would have to notify someone though. See if maybe there's anyone poor and hatless in the force."

"Ow, dude! You're a mean hat." Xander pulls on John until he lets go. "See if you get any Twinkies."

He frowns, except really this time, not pretending not to frown frowning. "Do magic hats eat? Would he starve if he stayed a hat and we couldn't figure out what he's supposed to eat?"

John is poked. It's like being at some twisted doctor's offices and his friends are there and he's kinda naked but really not and everyone is laughing at him!

Xander looked concerned. "You think she'll even change him back this time? She always has before, but I guess she's never been annoyed enough to turn him into something not an animal before."

"You think that would encourage her to change him back?" Xander asks doubtfully. "Like she'd be touched by his plight if she got up close and personal with him?" He considers it. "Well, it could work. John touched me."

"Huh. But he's a nice hat. I wouldn't want a stickbug on my head, but Hat John feels pretty good." Xander shrugs. "Worth a try, though."

He wears John into the classroom and approaches Professor Skeeter's desk. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to change John back into not a hat now, would you?"

"Oh, come on -- have a little sympathy." Obviously Rory was right, and the only solution was the drastic one. Xander plucked John off his head, and placed him firmly atop Professor Skeeter's gleaming bleached golden curls. "See, John's a nice hat. Don't you want to be kind to the nice hat?"

Rita scowled, pulled John off her head, and turned him back into a boy. And then he was very quiet omg. She turned to face Xander.

"Who are you, obnoxious little boy? Aside from a lucky person who'll be enjoying detention this Saturday?"

Eight hours from now or so, Xander would be wishing with all his heart that he'd answered, 'Jake Gavin, ma'am.' But alas and also alack, he lacked precognitive powers. As well as basic deductive reasoning, at times.

So instead he sucked it up like a man; it wasn't like he hadn't been living in a fantastic detention-free dream for a semester and a half now. sooner or later reality was bound to catch up with him.

"Xander Harris, friend to hats and lover of Twinkies, but not the other way around, because that would just be weird."

Xander was quite the brave soldier, Chloe had to admit.

"Are you allowed to give detention to people who aren't in our class? Xander was only trying to help," she said to Rita, looking John over to make sure he didn't have any hat-parts still attached to him.

"I have authority to give detention to any student, Ms. Sullivan," Rita answered coolly. "Have fun with Constable Fraser this weekend, Mr. - Harris, was it?"
