Ethics [Tuesday, November 5, 2013]

"Good morning," Anakin said as he strode into the Danger Shop, which has been set up to look like an arena, complete with a cheering, weirdly insectile, crowd.

Anakin drew from what he knew and the last arena he'd been in had been full of Geonosians trying to kill him. Ahem.

"There is a story on Earth called the Lady or the Tiger," Anakin said, "where a princess had been conducting an affair with someone far below her station and her father, the king, found out. Being a slightly sadistic man, his version of justice involved an arena like this and two doors like those." He pointed to the giant doors. "Today, you're the unlucky sap caught with the princess. Behind one door is a woman more suited to your position in life: not ugly, but not a princess either. If you open that door, you get to marry her immediately and are not horribly eaten in front of a cheering crowd. Because behind the second door is a hungry tiger, which will try to horribly eat you."

Anakin shrugged. "Well, try to. This is the Danger Shop and I'm not allowed to actually get you horribly eaten."

There'd be paperwork.

"Your task is to, based on the sort of person you'd date, decide if you're about to be married or tiger chow, get directions about which door to open from the princes--" who looked weirdly like Anakin's first wife, but never you mind that, "then open the door and find out if you're right."

He smiled fiendishly. "This should be interesting."

Possibly only for Anakin...

Emma hadn't really dated before this, except in the very loosest definition of the word, but no matter how low an opinion of she had of people in general, she couldn't really think of any situation a person would rather someone they loved be dead because as of yet no one had left her pregnant and in jail for their crimes at seventeen because they didn't want to deal with their daddy issues, Neal.

There weren't many relationships of value in Flick's life. The one he did have that could be considered dating had ended badly (because he'd ended it in a terrible way) so he was momentarily uncertain.

But, he figured that Joi, no matter how mad she might be, wouldn't kill him so he guessed he'd get married off to someone else. So, he headed for that door.

Even though Mira would have liked to picked the tiger, befriended it, and turned it into her new hunting buddy, tracking down people was what she did for a living, so she managed to pick the not-quite-princess' door with ease.

No potential maulings for her today!

"Seems a little messy," Flick remarked with a shrug. "Literally and metaphorically. Guess it's effective in that when the person's been eaten, they're dead and gone and Daddy Dearest wouldn't have to worry about his daughter getting in trouble anymore."

Not that he agreed with it but he could see that happening.

"True." People did love violence, apparently. Hungered for it, even. "I guess the only way this would come back to bite anyone in the ass is if they had an attack of conscious."

"Once in a blue moon," Flick said without hesitation. "So, it doesn't."

"If you're a crazy person who likes to murder people via tiger, sure," Mira said.
