The Tick loved chaperoning dances. In a way, it was like watching over The City, but on a much smaller scale and with music.

He was avoiding the punch as always. He was never making that mistake again.

The gentleman in the blue outfit catches his eye almost immediately. The fact that he has antennas is almost second nature because the blue outfit is spandex and Fraser just cannot ignore that.

"Sir? I don't believe we've met as of yet. Are you a faculty member?" Fraser asks slowly.

"Ooh!" Tick said, immediately recognizing the man's red suit and keen hat as a RCMP uniform. "A Mountie! It's good to see cog in the Watch of Justice here in the Jeweler's Store that is Fandom!"

"Indeed, I am a faculty member. I am... The Tick! Professor of Criminal Justice and local superhero! And you would be the school security officer, correct?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and head of school security," Fraser says. "You are well informed Mr. Tick. But, I don't think I am or have ever been a cog," Fraser says and frowns briefly. "Fandom has it's own superhero?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you're a cog, chum!" Tick asserted. "And the watch we're in is all sparkly with gold and diamonds! But in a modest way. Just enough to make people go 'Oooooooo.' Not gawdy or anything."

"Here, I'm a professor first, but if the day needs saving, I'm willing to lend a hand. Almost two months ago I saved the town from our current mayor and a duck army. But she was possessed at the time."

Fraser shakes his head quickly. He hadn't counted on being a watch and ducks were something new.

"Well, that's quite the interesting background you have, Mr. Tick. I'm sure the citizens are...I'm sorry, I must ask, ducks?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"The ducks around here are rather strange," Tick said simply.

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"So it seems," Fraser answers. "I'm very glad the citizens of Fandom had you around to prevent an invasion of ducks then. Have you always been a superhero?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"For as long as I can remember, yes," Tick said. Granted, his memory had some gaps in it. "But I lived in The City before moving here. Superheroes were a bit more in demand there."

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Even as a child?" Fraser asks. "I'm guessing, as you say you've been a superhero for as long as you can remember, you were a supehero as a child but...wasn't it hard to be a superhero and attend school?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, no. I can only remember back about... twelve," Tick thought, "yes, twelve years. Before that, things are kinda fuzzy, like the cocker spaniel of Justice!"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Fraser's still confused because spandex, antennas, and some very, very odd metaphors. "You know, your choice of attire reminds me of an Inuit myth I once heard. You've never been a spirit guide, have you?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"No, but I did once have a vision of my own head with wings guiding me through my own consciousness after a really big, mean clown hit me into the stratosphere," Tick said casually. "But I've never even been to Canada."

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"That almost sounds like something that would occur while one was on hallucinogenic drugs," Fraser comments. "Not that you were on drugs, Mr. Tick but that is quite the unusual vision."

"You've never been to Canada and I've never had the...pleasure of having a vision of my head flying."

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"No, chum, I live life clean and sober! I just have a different perspective than most people, it seems," Tick said.

"Perhaps one day we can trade those experiences. I'll go to Canada and you can do some soul-searching in your own mind. I don't suggest getting hit by a big clown, though. That really hurt."

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Fraser can't ignore the questions any longer.

"Mr. Tick, are the antennas actually attached to your head or is it merely a prop for your superhero persona?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sorry, chum, but that's a trade secret," Tick said. His antennae curled back to duck the question.

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Very well," Fraser says. "The blue one piece you're wearing. Is that attached to your...body or is that a trade secret as well?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, no, I can take it off," Tick said. "I've got to shower, after all. Cleanliness is one of the most important steps to being a proper Defender of Justice!"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"That is one, of the many, I'm sure, things we agree on," Fraser says, nodding. "Mr. Tick, may I ask you a question about the citizens of this town?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course! We're colleagues. Whatever information I have is for your use as well!" Tick said.

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you kindly," Fraser says and steps closer. "I've noticed an unsual fascination some of the citizens have taken with my hat. I was wondering, is that normal around here? Have other people had their hats so heavily scrutinized?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, there aren't many behatted people around, really. Perhaps it's the fact that the hat of a Mountie is such a strong symbol of Justice that they are struck intrigued," Tick offered.

"Granted, that would be a little strange since a Mountie hat isn't actually a common symbol of Justice around here. Maybe it's just the fact that it's a keen hat?"

Re: Chaperones - Professor Tick

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-02-18 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I hadn't thought of it exactly that way," Fraser says, considering the statement. "Most of the time, when I meet someone new, they ask about my hat. I've even let a few student wear it. Has anyone asked to wear your antenna?"
