"Your minds are either with your visitors from this weekend or focused on vacation this coming weekend," Anakin said, "but tough because you still have a week of classes to get through this week and last week's movie was the first one I've showed for a class in more than five years of teaching, so don't think you're getting off easy today."

Anakin was such a happy pushover of a teacher, huh class?

"One of the major religious sects on this planet, Christianity, lists out seven 'deadly sins': particular vices that encourage humans to veer off a more virtuous path of charity and grace. Those sins are: wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. My questions to you today: which of those sins do you think pose your greatest challenge to overcome? Are there any on that list that you believe aren't all that bad a sin?"

Anakin leaned back against his desk. "Personally, I think my greatest flaw is pride. Wounded pride, in my experience, can lead to wrath, envy, greed and gluttony. Especially wrath."

Not that he'd be telling you about that particular part of his life.

"All right," he said, pointing to a student. "You first."

Or daydream about the weekend.

Yeah, Flick wasn't daydreaming. He was leaning back in his chair, listening to the lecture and glancing around every so often.

Which of the seven deadly sins is your favorite? Um, fatal flaw. Yes. Which is your fatal flaw? Are there any on the list that don't seem that bad to you?

"Wrath." It was a simple, short answer. That was his fatal flaw and, after this weekend, he could be honest about that. "And I don't think it's a bad sin either. Not too me."

Not a lot of elaboration but at least he hadn't lied.

"Why don't you think wrath is that bad?" Anakin "Kill Them, Kill Them All" Skywalker asked.

Flick shrugged. He had a few people in mind when saying that and wasn't about to confess that.

"Eye for an eye?" Flick said for lack of anything else. "If someone does me bad, why should I get the chance to repay that?"

"Because the anger can poison you from the inside?" Anakin offered. "Or don't you think that happens?"

"And what if it's already poisoned you?" Flick retorted with a lift of his eyebrow. "No harm in going further is there?"

For a moment Anakin looked old. "There's always harm in that. The line you won't cross will get fuzzier."

And then one day you're slaughtering children and pledging your allegiance to a creeptastic old man....

"I think I'll take my chances," Flick said, shrugging. He'd already decided on his plan of action. Sorry, Anakin.

"I'm sorry you've had to make that choice," Anakin said, absolutely serious. "I'm in my office on Thursdays if you'd like a place to talk that isn't so crowded."

"Uh huh."

Well, don't count on it, Anakin. Maybe he'd show if Jude appeared and made him feel sufficiently guilty.

But probably not.

"I don't know?" Karina offered with a shrug. "Both pride and greed could apply but the things I'm greedy for, I work for, and I take pride in my strengths, which I don't think is a bad thing."

"Pride is tricky that way," Anakin said. "Where do you think the line is between pride in a job well done and pride that you're better than everyone?"

"Does it really matter?" Karina wondered. "I mean, like, if you really are better than everyone? Isn't it justified then?"

"Everyone?" Anakin looked skeptical. "There's always someone better at something."

"Maybe," though she didn't sound super convinced of that, "but after a certain point, that's pretty much up to personal taste and public perception. Once you get to the top, yeah, some people are going to like so-and-so better and think they're more skilled than you but, really, if you're at the top and generally agreed that you should be at the top, even if you're sharing that honor with a few others, I don't see the problem with having a lot of pride in that."

"Odds are, it's going to end up being pride that gets me," Mira mused. "But when it brings me down, at least it should end up being a pretty spectacular fall from grace."

It was possible that Mira wasn't taking the topic completely seriously.

Anakin arched up an eyebrow. "How do you figure that?"

"How many elderly bounty hunters do you know?" Mira asked. "Eventually I'll get the wrong target, or at the rate I'm going, I'll piss off enough other bounty hunters with my humble nature that they'll actually find someone better than me. And then that person will pay me a visit. But when that day comes, I like to think it'll end up on the HoloNet News."

He won't tell you what he said to your guardians. Neener.
