Library, Sunday All Day

"Hey, Kid A!"

"No, Quentin."

"You don't even know what I was going to say."

"I'm pretty sure I can guess."

"Hmm... Nope, you definitely can't."

"Get out of my head, Quentin."

"We'll see. Anyway, while you're here at the library making cozy with the books, you should let me borrow your dog. I can take him to the brunch, let him get some exercise and fresh air..."

"I'm not letting you use Ozzy just so that you can pick up girls, Quentin."

"You sure?"

"Positive."

"Dammit, Kid A. You really are shaping up to be pretty evil."

Evan was pretty sure that this was going to be his supervillain origin story.

Eventually, Constantine poked his head out of his office to peer suspiciously at Evan's friend. "Oi, pink-kid. Either get to work, check something out, or get out. Loitering with Intent to Annoy gets people fed to the Special Collections."

Quentin needed to take a moment to peer suspiciously right back at Constantine over the top of his glasses.

"So you're the establishment around here, huh? Don't worry too much, there. I'll be out of Kid A's hair as soon as he tells me where to find the squeaky pork chop."

Evan was never telling.

Constantine snorted. "Fuck the establishment, son. I'm their worst nightmare - a bloke with books."

Potentially demonic books, but books.

"Yeah? And what are you and those books doing that the establishment hates so much?"

Quentin could find out fairly easily, he figured. But hey, there was a school faculty member in here swearing. He kind of found himself liking the guy already.

"Providing knowledge instead of a syllabus," he answered cheerfully. "And a good place to hide the bodies."

"Ooooh. Is that why this kid hasn't been called out as a supervillain, yet? He's got the faculty here hiding the evidence for him?"

At Evan's strangled protest, Quentin added, "Good little actor, isn't he?"

"For Ev? Nah, he's a good kid. Most of the bodies are Sho's." Going to Hell, Constantine, going to Hell. Again.

"Sho, huh?" Quire looked at Evan thoughtfully... and then burst out into a fit of laughter. "The girlfriend! The cute little freckled girlfriend!"

"Shut up, Quentin!"

"Kid A picked up a Kid S!"

Quentin used his telepathy for the forces of good, as you could tell.

"Riiiiight, I don't know what you're on about, but if you keep annoying my aide, I'll give the books permission to chew you up and spit you out faster than I can light a fag," he said pleasantly. "So behave."

"Yeah, yeah. The books are terrifying, the island's weird, I know, I got the memo," Quentin replied, rolling his eyes and making his way for the door. "Doesn't matter anyhow. I figured out where he keeps the dog toys. Don't you two strain anything taking care of these books while I'm out impressing the ladies, hmm?"

Such. An. Ass.

And once he was gone, the expression on Evan's face said he thought as much, loud and clear.
