Sometimes, the biggest challenge when coming into the library wasn't the weird things that the books were doing. It was figuring out what they were up to when they were doing nothing at all.
... Not that Evan was paranoid, but when he walked into a library these days and nothing jumped out at him or followed him around the stacks, it tended to make him suspicious, like he was waiting for the other foot to fall.
And, as he went through his entire shift, nothing changed about that.
Nothing. At all. The books were all being perfectly well-behaved.
It was enough to drive a little library aide half-crazy.
