Cultural Exploration [Friday, 2nd Period]

"Welcome to Georgia," Clint said once he'd ushered everyone through at the Portalocity office. "If you're familiar with the US, we're not in the state of Georgia. This is the country, over in the Caucasus Mountains." In case they'd missed the view in the distance and all. "The Georgian people are very hospitable, honorable, and respectful, and they expect the same treatment from their visitors. Not that I think that's going to be a problem or anything." Clint was growing fond of his students, as usual. "We're going to head into Tbilisi, which is the capital city and one of the few places we're likely to find people who speak English. It's been destroyed and rebuilt a good twenty-something times, so there's plenty for us to do. I've got maps for everyone and I'm just going to let you guys roam free today, but try to at least stick in pairs so you're less likely to get lost."

At first, Sholeh was a bit hesitant to go off by herself. But then she got her map and saw interesting stuff to do and she forgot to be nervous.

Of course, it helped she was never really alone.

Jim couldn't resist heading to the Puppet Museum. Look, there were puppets and he figured they'd be creepy as hell so he was there.

Of course.

Alex had a lot of overwhelming feelings. Though this wasn't exactly where she had grown up, it was the same region. She was thinking about home a lot right now.

Mercy loved the khachapuri and khinkali. A bit too much maybe. Which made later visits a bit tough as she was way overfull.

Sholeh made a mess of the dumplings the first time she ate them, much to the amusement of the onlookers. So, the next time she was feeling peckish, she watched how the locals ate them instead and did her best to emulate them. By the end of the day, she was leaving behind little platefuls of the tops and feeling very proud of herself.

And, if sometimes there was a blond girl or a brunette eating the dumplings instead of a tiny freckled redhead, who would notice?

Due to a paperwork error, for 8 years the SFUSD was 100% sure I was born in Georgia and was 6 years younger than I really was. Spoiler: They were wrong.

Hilariously, while I have never been to Georgia, my mom was there a year before I was born and lists Tbilisi as one of her favorite cities.

/story time.
