Science You Cannot Possibly Comprehend, Monday, Period 5
"I hope last week taught you all that I spoke the truth from the beginning of this class," Doom said as the class began. He was standing in front of a large metal ring at the front of the lab. "The concepts in this class shall be difficult. The actual creation of devices will require explanation and to build any of the inventions we discuss from scratch will not be possible in the remainder of class. I have no interest in giving you busy work, so you will not receive assignments or assistance to continue any of these inventions outside of class."
"Should you choose to further experiment outside of class, that is your decision. It is your initiative to take. If you can complete a device on your own time, it is possible that you may impress Doom, but it will not affect your grade," Doom explained. "And now that I have been forced to explain this in simple terms due to the difficulties certain students had in grasping the concept, you have lost precious minutes to complete your build during the second half of class. You may thank Victor Mancha for this disruption."
"Also, no more food orders during class, Cecil Baldwin. Anyone who orders food in this class will be assigned detention. No further warnings will be issued."
"With that out of the way, I wish to follow up on last week's discussion of travel through time with talk of travel through space. Or, to be more accurate, interdimensional travel. When I was a youth, that was what first brought me to this country. Your military brought me to America to invent for them during the Cold War. In secret, I began work on a device that could transport me into the Hell realm of a devil some of you may know as Mephisto," Doom explained, pure hatred in his voice. "I had unsettled business with the demon. A rival's interference led to the failure of the device, but for a brief moment, I crossed between universes. It was the first time anyone in my world had done so via a mechanical device."
"Today in Fandom, interdimensional travel is obviously commonplace. You can achieve it through magical means simply by crossing the causeway. If you prefer to use an unreliable service, you may order a portal from Portalocity. I prefer something I can control," Doom said. Because of course he did. "Reed Richards created a device he called The Bridge, which could transport beings to a place outside of space and time. This device is based on that design."
And that's when Doom launched into the detailed explanation of wormholes, tears in space, the fabric of dimensions, dimensional harmonics, and so on, and so forth. After twenty minutes, he had delivered a relatively succinct explanation of how it was possible for a metal ring to allow you to go from one dimension to another. Hopefully you were able to follow along, because he did not stop for questions.
Doom touched his gauntlet, where he had hidden the only control panel for this specific Bridge portal. A shimmering yellow light appeared within the ring. "As a class, we shall now travel through this portal to a private lab I have built. There, you will have the opportunity to work."

Listen to the Lecture
Oh, and he's serious about the food thing. If any food comes to the class, you will get detention. Only warning!
Re: Listen to the Lecture
Nah, he was just going to let it be. He'd eat later. Besides, he actually paid attention in this class.
Re: Listen to the Lecture
Though given the nature of their assignments, that was sort of a given. Cecil sighed and did his best to take notes again.
Re: Listen to the Lecture
If he wasn't learning some amazing things, he would completely hate this class.

Also, she was totally thinking about how she might be able to sneak food into class.
It was possible she wasn't real good with overbearing authority.
Cross the Bridge: Enter Doom's Lab
Once all the students crossed through, Doom touched the control panel on his gauntlet again and the yellow light in the portal disappeared.
"There are two possible portals back to the school science lab. The pieces for the first one are all in that corner of the lab. Like last week and every week for the rest of the semester, you may choose to start the process with that portal. You WILL NOT COMPLETE IT. It took me three days to complete the portal we just used," Doom said.
"Although one day of that was admittedly spent creating parts that would disintegrate upon use. Which means that the portal we used needs repair should you desire returning at the end of the period. All of the parts you will need are next to the portal. You know the theory. You saw the blueprints during the lecture. The parts are labeled. You have 25 minutes to repair it as a group. It is up to you to decide if you trust your classmates enough to allow them to handle the working portal while you learn more from the full build. Decide quickly and get to work."

Oh, people were welcome to approach him. He'd take it as a compliment. But he just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that he was legit a professional, okay.

DEAL WITH IT.
But Loki did hold his tongue, watching his classmate with avid fascination.

OOC
But boy is it fun to write these classes. :D
