Library, Friday

It was a little weird to be in the library on a Friday, but Billy was glad his schedule had been switched around, partly because it gave him a chance to look at online classes while he was still thinking about classes, and partly because it meant he could sleep in on Sundays. It was the little things that made life better, really.

Billy was engrossed in the computer screen at the moment, but he'd totally pull himself away if anyone needed help.

Sometime around mid-morning, a remote-control-operated toy airplane floated in through the barely-open doorway and drifted toward the main desk.

Guess who, Billy!

Billy looked up at the sound and grinned, turning in his chair. "Hello?"

[dollpocalypse]

The main entrance to the library cracked open a tiny bit, enough that Topher's response -- "I am a talking plaaaaane" -- was audible.

Seriously, Topher, this was not how seventeen-year-olds behaved.

Pfft, like Billy wanted to hang out with a mature 17 year old. "Oh, hi there talking plane. Do you need some help?"

[dollpocalypse]

"Yeah," said the 'plane.' "I wanna make out with you."

Well.

The plane zoomed around Billy's head. Someone was having fun with the remote.

"Awww, I'm sorry plane, but I'm taken by this really cute guy and all my makeouts are for him," Billy said, biting his lip to keep from laughing too hard.

[dollpocalypse]

"Oh, okay," the plane conceded. "That's fair. Well, let me know if that changes, yeah? I'll be around."

"Okay. And if you see my boyfriend, let him know I'm looking for him?" Billy asked.

[dollpocalypse]

"Sure," the plane agreed happily. "He sounds cool. I'll keep an eye out for someone cool."

That was when the door opened, and the plane halted in the air momentarily as Topher used his hands to push the door rather than steer the remote.

"Did someone say 'someone cool'?"

God, Topher was such a dork.

"I might have said 'someone adorable' but you're not totally wrong," Billy said, getting up from his chair and going over to Topher. "Hi. I like your toy."

[dollpocalypse]

"Me too," Topher agreed happily. "And you're adorable...er. Hi."

Oh yeah, Billy was getting kissed.

Oh, hey, that kissing was perfectly fine with Billy, and he kissed Topher right back. "Did I mention I missed you this summer?"

[dollpocalypse]

"I could totally tell," Topher declared. "The bio-sensors I put in the plane were picking up on all kinds of missing-me vibes." That was not at all true. "I missed you too. The other guys in the lab weren't as cool as you." Or anywhere near as cute. It had been a rough summer.

"But the lab was fun, right?" Billy asked. "It seemed like you were having fun and you got to learn a lot and everything?"

[dollpocalypse]

"Dude, the lab was awesome," Topher intoned, eyes suddenly wide with sincerity. "Everyone was kind of... not way dumber than me. Like, there might have been even one or two people who could do calculations faster than me." Or the entire team. Shh. "And the testing was really cool, and I didn't get to see any of the data or mortality stats but I know my R&D crap was functional and boosted efficiency, and I got to keep an awesome pair of Aperture sweatpants even though I'm not allowed to wear them outside."

The way he got all eager, you could almost forget about the 'mortality stats' buried in the middle of that last sentence, huh?

"It was so cool," he concluded. "Maybe they'll hire me for real after college. That would be awesome."

And then, almost as an afterthought-- "How was your summer?"

"It, uh, wasn't so bad." Yeah, he was just going to ignore the part about mortality stats for now. "Not nearly as exciting as yours, obviously. Things have been kind of quiet here, but I like that. And I hope I didn't just jinx it or something."

[dollpocalypse]

"If things start getting weird, I won't tell anyone it was your fault," Topher promised. How generous, or something.

"Hey, it's kind of weird to be seniors, right?"

"It's so weird!" Billy agreed. "I can't believe we're going to graduate. Is it wrong to already be thinking about what we might have to deal with at graduation?"

[dollpocalypse]

"Yeah, but don't worry, I can make us little explosives," Topher promised. "I guess they worked for Kenzi this past year, 'cause I gave her some and she's still around and stuff."

He paused, as though something had just occured to him. "Wait, why am I even reassuring you? You're like the most powerful... powers-person in our whole class."

Billy blushed at that, even though he knew it was probably true. "Maybe you should make yourself little explosives, and we can stick together to make sure we both end up being around and stuff afterwards?" he suggested.

[dollpocalypse]

"Not only does that sound awesome, but it sounds conceivably like the ending fight scene of an only moderately annoying superheroes-who-date-each-other story arc," Topher mused. "Deal."

"Good, then it's settled," Billy said, kissing Topher on the cheek. "So how are your classes going so far?"
