Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of tables and chairs scattered around the lawn for anyone who wanted to sit down once they'd had their fill of the buffet, or to recover from starting to find out what this place was all about. No one would judge the need to take a mental breather.

Seriously Fandom, wtf flower crowns?

Some of the tables were out in the open, for those who weren't allergic to the sun, and some of the tables were in the shade, or far from the rest of the crowd for those who needed a little more space to process. Wherever people decided to rest, there was space enough for everyone.

[OOC: This is part two of the picnic, separated in an effort to save our browsers for as long as possible. Part one, to run into siblings, roommates and teachers, is over here, though teachers are also welcome in this post, of course. Because the picnic is outside, it is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

Between the crown of snowdrops and her excellent hair day, Emma was the very image of some kind of fairytale princess. At least from the shoulders up. Every single thrift store she'd gone to on the mainland had been picked clean of clothing (damn, hipsters), so she was stuck with the jeans with worn through knees and a shirt she didn't think would last much longer.

But while it did, she'd be over by the food table, eating ~~and pocketing leftovers~~.

"Nice crown," Flick said when he spotted one of the few people he happened to recognize in the crowd of people. "I'd ask if it was a religious statement but with everyone else wearing them?"

He shrugged and brought a hand up to his hair to make sure a crown hadn't appeared. Nope, still good. "You're wearing it better than a lot of other people here."

"Just crazy islands latest piece of insanity," Emma said with a wry grin, since it was still a good fourteen years before discussing headgear with someone with Flick's face would make her want to hit things. "I'm guessing either yours are invisible or you lucked out."

"Just lucky, I guess." There was a first time for everything, apparently. "At least yours is nice? I've seen some pretty...bad ones around the area. So, take comfort in that."

Not that she seemed too upset about it or anything.

"If I had one, it'd probably huge and full of dead flowers."

"It definitely seems more understated than some of these." No matter how huge, flower crowns were better than randomly turning into a dude, which Emma was using as her benchmark of crazy ~~for now~~.

"What, you don't think you'd have the most stylish one here?"

"No, I don't think. I know it."

His was life was too crappy to give him good things like a fashionable flower crown. It was doing him a favor by not giving him a crown in the first place.

"It'd probably have thorns or be a home to some pissed off bee. That's how my life works."

"I hear you there." Emma knew sucky lives, they should share notes sometimes. Only not, because that would be depressing, and involve trusting other people. "But sometimes there are days you get a free lunch."

One of the reasons crazy school on crazy island was preferable than going back to foster care.

Trust was the most dangerous weapon out there, wasn't it?

"Let's hope nothing's poisoned," Flick said oh so optimistically. "But, I do get the point. Sometimes, you have a good day out of the billion bad ones. And that one good day gives you free food that you can conveniently fit in your pockets."

Anyone who didn't know that by now...had much less sucky lives then them.

"And backpack." She'd come prepared. "Pity that's too obvious in Lecter's class though." Yeah that had been the only class description Emma had actually read this semester.

Flick hadn't even looked at his class schedule. It wasn't like he had the opportunity to pick so he'd just gotten into the frame of mind of not caring. But if he was in another class about grief...

"Food's really important to you, isn't it?" he asked with a quiet chuckle. "Surprised I haven't seen you around, hunting through the common rooms."

Emma shrugged. "A girl's gotta eat." And she'd already learnt that if she wasn't going to keep herself fed, who would?

"Maybe I have been, and I'm just too sneaky for you to notice." That or they'd just missed each other given there were five floors worth of common rooms ~~and her player was slack about posting~~.

"No one's too sneaky for me." There were plenty of people too sneaky for him. "You act like you're a ninja or something. I see no sign of that in the person in front of me."

Because all ninjas wore full black and not flower crowns, of course.

Or at the very least they wore black flower crowns.

"But see if you look at me and don't see a ninja then half my work is already done for me. That's how sneaky I am."

"Touche," he said because he had to give her that one. She'd danced right around his admittedly ridiculous logic. "Thing is, I don't think you have to be a ninja. I steal crap from the common rooms all the time. No one's come to wag a finger at me."

In fact, it was really easy to steal a lot of things on this island. It was still fun but the challenge made it a lot more fun.

"Those apples lasted two weeks last time," Cade told the person who was also not stealing food.

Plus they weren't poisoned or spelled, not that she was aware that was one day going to actually be an issue for her.

"Thanks," Emma said. "The crown's a good look for you."

No, no it wasn't.

"Yeah, it really brings out my eyes," Cade said dryly, shooting the crown a dirty look. "You're pulling it off. How do you manage?"

It was because magical fairytale princesses got certain perks, but since Emma knew nothing about that... "Not sure," she said, frowning. "I didn't even do anything to it."

Magical princess powers.

"Well, some day the island will put us all in leather pants and I'll have a natural advantage there," Cade declared.

Though Emma had a pretty nice ass too, because of course he'd checked.

Hence a future of wearing ridiculously tight jeans.

"I noticed." Because it was hard not to with Cade's fashion choices.

"Subtle" was not generally a word that was associated with Cade, no.

"So where do we put in suggestions for non-flower crowns?" he asked. "Do we just yell them into the karking sky?"

"You could try that."

Go on, Cade, try that, Emma didn't even have a phone or camera to take a picture.

"Maybe not with a bunch of people around," Cade said. "They'll think I'm barvy."

"Considering the flower crowns and pink tattoos they already might."

Other people, not her! Really.

Cade frowned. "Karking gremlins."
