fandomhigh | Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Once again, the front lawn of the school had been set up to welcome the new students and teachers who were--assuming the bus trip went safely--arriving in Fandom for the first time. The goal was to create a friendly atmosphere to ease everyone into Fandom life, so the helpers had arranged the school's blue and gold tables everywhere, along with streamers and just a touch of glitter. Someday, the school would run out of glitter, but it would not be this day. There was also plenty of food to be shared next to the information tables, listing out siblings and teaching buddies and roommates, oh my.

Of course, no welcome picnic was allowed to run truly smoothly and the island, seemingly not wanting to miss out on the festivities, was blessing everyone with flower crowns. But hey, at least it wasn't raining something odd, right?

[OOC: This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic will be in post two in an effort to stop our browsers from dying. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

"Actually I just went to France and looked up what was around," Kitty admitted. "This is Google knowledge."

"Oh. Right." Google. Everything could be Googled these days. "So, you visited the Carnac Stones? How'd they look?"

"Oh, I meant they looked awesome on Google. We went to Paris instead," she said. "Should have clarified."

"Still. France!" France sounded cool. Maybe one day he'd get to go and it'd actually be a vacation and not for some insane scheme.

"What's a teaching buddy do, anyway? You're not gonna like...grade me or anything, right?"

"Not at all," Kitty assured him. "I'm here mainly to answer any questions you have, and also to maybe explain some things. This island's a little... different than most places." She was just going to tap the mysterious appearing flower crown on her head.

Riley looked up and snickered slightly a the flower crown. He inhaled and nodded.

"They wouldn't let me bring my car on the island." To Riley, that was strange. But he loved his car.

"Well, the roads are sliiightly narrow," Kitty said. "But I meant more like weird things happen here sometimes?"

Uh oh.

"Define weird," he said, having thought the weird part of his life was over.

"Well. Flower crowns might appear on your head, or it main rain something weird, or maybe you wake up as a woman one day? It varies," she said.

"...right," Riley said after staring at her and waiting for her to tell him 'psych' or say he was on some hidden camera show.

When she didn't, he was kind of at a loss. "You're not hazing me, are you? Trying to get me to freak out and run away? I haven't stumbled onto some undiscovered cult, have I?"

"No, but you have stumbled onto some mostly undiscovered weirdness," Kitty said sympathetically. "We're a little like, if you took the Z-Cases, and watered it down a little and got rid of the whole conspiracy thing and set it on a small island."

"Uh huh."

Falling silent, Riley looked around. For a second, he contemplated just running away. He could go sit on a beach somewhere and drink margaritas and...be bored.

"I hope there's a good therapist on this island."

"There's a guidance counselor?" Kitty said. "At least most of the people here are really nice, so it makes it easier to deal with it all."

Riley nodded, contemplating that. "And has anyone recently suffered a mental breakdown?"

Important question!

"Not that I know of," Kitty said. "Honestly, if you just go and roll with it, it's so much easier. Like turning into the spin when you hit black ice."

Riley was Riley and panicked easily. It was a thing.

"Don't make me miss my car even more," he said, half joking and half serious. "Separation anxiety and all."

"I'm sorry," Kitty said quickly. "No more car talk."

"But, I'll take your advice," Riley promised even though he knew listening to her advice and heeding her advice would be two very different things. "I'll roll with it. And don't ever tell me where you live because if that doesn't work, I will come over and whine."

He wouldn't do that. Okay, he probably would whine but he wouldn't go over and whine at her. Unless he happened to see her in passing and remembered that he wanted to whine.

"Well, then how 'bout I tell you that if you do need to whine, you can stop in at Caritas and Tuesdays and I'll be happy to listen. And serve you drinks," Kitty told him.

"Yeah, okay," Riley said agreeably. "Once I figure out where that place is, I'm sure I'll be there. I'll probably need it."

And he'd only experienced flower crowns so far.
