fandomhigh | Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Once again, the front lawn of the school had been set up to welcome the new students and teachers who were--assuming the bus trip went safely--arriving in Fandom for the first time. The goal was to create a friendly atmosphere to ease everyone into Fandom life, so the helpers had arranged the school's blue and gold tables everywhere, along with streamers and just a touch of glitter. Someday, the school would run out of glitter, but it would not be this day. There was also plenty of food to be shared next to the information tables, listing out siblings and teaching buddies and roommates, oh my.

Of course, no welcome picnic was allowed to run truly smoothly and the island, seemingly not wanting to miss out on the festivities, was blessing everyone with flower crowns. But hey, at least it wasn't raining something odd, right?

[OOC: This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic will be in post two in an effort to stop our browsers from dying. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers and townies!]

"About a year and a half," Anna confirmed. "Seems like less." Time flew when you weren't trapped in a house.

"Is it less where you're from?" Cecil asked. "Or does it just feel like it? I'm hoping time goes faster here," he confided. "It should, but then past performance doesn't guarantee future results. You know." He shrugged.

Anna paused, tilting her head and examining Cecil for a moment, before she asked, "Okay, do you...already know someone who goes here or something? Or did someone else get to you before me?"

"I know you," Cecil pointed out smiling. "You're the first one I've met. Why?"

"Sorry, it's just...most of the time 'time may move faster on the island' is sort of...advanced 'break it to the new kid that this place is weird.'"

"Oh!" Cecil thought he understood now. "No, I'm pretty much counting on it. Time moves slower at home than just about anywhere else. Well, usually. That's one reason I left; I'm hoping to age back up faster. If it's even faster here, that would be great!"

"Oh! Okay, good," Anna said. "I mean...that must be tricky for you, but at least it won't be new and strange. Um...let's see, how familiar are you with the idea of...I don't know, magic, aliens, people from parallel universes? Because we have those here. All of them."

"Oh, I brought my own bloodstone circle!" Cecil answered. "Well, it's just a travel set, but I wasn't sure how much room the dorms would have for chanting and things."

He pondered. "I've never met an alien, but I've seen the lights, of course. And we had that sandstorm a while back and there were some very evil döppelgangers," he announced solemnly. Which didn't sound nearly as good in fourteen-year-old-soprano, darn it. He wanted his voice back!

"You know what?" Anna asked. "I think you're going to fit right in. Oh! I should probably warn you about the gremlins. They're sort of vermin? They like to bite people, and it causes hallucinations. So watch your ankles."

Cecil's eyes got solemn and wide, and he nodded and tucked his feet under himself. "Is there anyplace I can buy armored socks?"

"I don't know," Anna admitted. "But you would think someone would be selling those by now, wouldn't you?"

"It would be a prime business opportunity," Cecil pointed out.

"I'm kind of amazed no one's thought of it before," she admitted.

"Oo, do they have FBLA here?" Cecil actually bounced in place. "They could do that! I remember our local group back home made some really excellent first aid kits a few years ago. They had all kinds of useful things."

"I don't know what that is, so I'm pretty sure we don't, but it sounds like something really useful," Anna said. "We have lots of clubs and things, though."

"Future Business Leaders of America," Cecil explained. "Well, not really, but that's what it stands for. Mostly it's just a chance for the bossiest kids in the school to meet bossier adults and try to sell things nobody wants to their parents."

That wasn't even a Night Vale thing.

"What sorts of clubs do you have?"

"It depends on what someone wants to run," Anna said. "We used to have an Apathy Club...actually we may still, I don't know. I never figured out how that was supposed to work. There's a lacrosse team, even though we don't play against any other schools, and...let's see, there's a frat, which I think just means they play video games together?"

"Well, I bet at least nobody cares if there's still an Apathy Club or not?" Cecil offered. "I'm not very good at Apathy, though. I took Civic Pride instead." Because of course he did. "And I was in Glee Club."

There had been a Glee Club! But it was before Anna's time, so she didn't know about it. "We have cheerleading?" she offered. "I guess for the lacrosse team."

"That sounds nifty! Are you a cheerleader?"
