The glittery enthusiasm of the 'Fandom High' banner strung across the wall was a little unexpected, but at least it confirmed Vider was where she was supposed to be, even if no one else appeared to be here yet. That part wasn't surprising, considering how early her flight had gotten in, but she seemed to be dealing with the earliness of the hour remarkably well. It might have had something to do with the fact that she was getting used to never getting quite enough sleep any more.

One of the trainers at the Hangadrottin War College had shoved a wad of unfamiliar money into her hand this morning, 'for the journey,' like she was going to some foreign country and not just the East coast. Still, she wasn't going to turn down money so she'd taken it without complaint and used some of it to buy a tea and pastry for breakfast, and once she picked out a seat by the wall where she could prop her spear case and sword up, she settled in to eat, picking the pastry apart into little shreds before putting them in her mouth.

So far this boarding school thing didn't seem so bad, although she was reserving final judgment until she'd actually seen the school.

"Alana," Alana answered, returning the smile and wave, because yes, going simple worked just fine for her. "Ready for the whole school experience?"

"Oh, I am hecka pumped," said Danny, bouncing a little bit on his feet. "How about you? I'm...kinda sensing some mix reactions around here."

"Psyched to get away from home," Alana said firmly, "but ... a little nervous about school, maybe? It seems like I'm the only Landfallian."

"Landfallian?" Danny's interest was definitely piqued. "Ooh, where's that? I'm from Neomars, myself. Pretty sure I'm the only one from there, but never say never, right?"

"It's" -- Alana explained the galactical placement of Landfall in a way that would make sense to someone with a good working knowledge of the universe and interstellar travel. "Where's Neomars?"

As someone with a pretty good working knowledge of the universe and interstellar travel (or just someone really good with faking it), Danny totally got it, for the most part.

Thankfully, though, the answer to Alana's question was a bit easier.

Danny lifted a finger, slowly raising it toward the sky. "Boooooooop," he said, pointing in the general direction of up there. He shrugged, finger still up in the air. "In about a thousand and fifty years, anyway. This place, Earth? Totally wasted by then, but I'm not sure if I should tell people that. Might freak 'em out a little, you know? Create a time pair of socks."

"... paradox?" Alana tried, though really the idea of a time pair of socks was charming. "But that stinks. I agree you probably aren't supposed to tell people, but what if somebody here could stop it?"

"Then we'd probably all be drowning in time pairs of socks," Danny pointed out, shaking his head. "Man, time travel can get really bunk sometimes. If I have to, though, I'm going to just have to head back to the time when I would just about to leave for this place and destroy the machine."

Pause.

"Again."

Yeah, he had to do that a lot.
